The Academy Awards (official name of Oscars)season is getting nearer--on March 7--and the fever is on. This going to be an exciting Oscars because two movies which had the most nominations (9 all)- Avatar and The Hurt Locker - are projects of ex-couple James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow, so they'll compete on the directing category too. But I would go for Avatar, I mean James Cameron really deserved an Oscar for this fantastic film, the visual and sound effects are amazing. How about you?

I will go for Avatar also, it has a wonderful plot, though I was disappointed when it did not earn a Best Screenplay nomination and Best Actress nomination for Zoe Saldana who I think did a great job as Neyri. But of course visual and sound effects trophies will definitely go for Avatar.

While I think Avatar is definitely deserving of an Oscar for special effects, I don't believe it should win the Best Picture. If James Cameron wins for director, that's fine too. But I just don't feel Avatar was actually a better story, a better idea made real as an actual movie than some of the other contenders. I couldn't say who I think will win, as with ten nominees it is even more of a mystery. However, I'd bet money Disctrict 9 and The Blind Side do not win. Not that they weren't good movies. But The Blind Side has too much of a happy ending for such cynical voters in the Academy, and District 9, well I just don't think it stands a chance.

Hello AmbiePam, Many said, this year's Oscar is more exciting because two contenders for Best Picture award, Avatar and The Hurt Locker, are films directed by ex-couple , which are competing in the Best Director category too. James Cameron for Avatar and Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker are actually ex-couple. I think they divorced after Titanic fever. Now they are facing each other at the Academy. Though I have great hopes for Avatar, I still have to watch Cameron's ex-wife's film to have a fair judgment.

I've already watched Avatar and The Hurt Locker. They are very good movies and so is The Blind Side. Avatar may romp off with technical awards but the other movies have a good chance of winning the Best Picture category. Knowing how unconventional Oscar is, they might go with The Hurt Locker.

I haven't actually seen any of the movies that have been nominated for best picture of 2009, but I think that Avatar is going to win the award hands down. This is based on what I have heard about that movie and also based on the extraordinary amount of money that it has made in the box office. Several years ago when I was in high school, Titanic became the number one movie in sales in the box office and it won best picture so I think that history is going to repeat itself in many ways.
