Smoking at the work place.

At our Staff Meeting Friday they told us that by the end of the year our work place is going to be a smoke free work place. Being an ex smoker I know how hard that's gonna be for some people especially since nobody monitors peoples breaks so they can smoke anytime they want, outside of course. They gonna provide anything the smokers need to help them deal with the non smoking rule.I still think it's not fair to change over. I can see if it was non smoking from the beginning so people knew when they started there that there is no smoking. You have to leave the property to smoke so they all gonna step down on the sidewalk and smoke anyways. Any new rules at your work place for the New Year?

no there is no such rules in my place in my place the only thing is that we should smoke only at the smokers area . more over i am not a smoker . i think smoking during a work or in a work place is not a good thing to do . so according to your company cahnge yourself as a ex smoker . that will be good for your health too . smoking is dangerous to health . in some places they ban smoking since they might working in a place where it may catch catch fire quickly in such cases we should accept the rule ...

We always had to go outside to the designated smoking area so it's not like we were smoking in the building. I'm glad I quit though, it's getting too expensive.

In our workplace, law on smoking is not that strict. Fortunately, the staff are all concerned with each others heath so smokers have to accept and respect non-smokers health risk

Hi missybear, We have had the smoking ban here for a number of years, so we can't smoke in public places or the work place like we once could. I am an ex smoker so I know it will be hard for your workmates to adjust. So your work mates will do just what we did at the time and step outside the building lol. A smoker will always find a way to smoke. No new rules at my work place for the New Year but I am sure they will think of something silly, its still early in the year yet

I know when I smoked I always found a way. When I used to work at the casinos doing housekeeping I smoked in the empty rooms. Never did get caught..Heehe

Naughty you lol. That's exactly what I mean, a smoker will always find a way to smoke whatever the situation and can find very creative ways to sneak in a smoke.

We have it on Illinois for long time. In bars and restaurants the regulation starts in 2009. I love it. I can go to any place and come home without headaches. As far as workplace, the regulation is here for such long time, hard to remember for how many years.

Hi Missybear, In the office there is a policy where staff can have their "lung break" hehehe smoking activity. it is improper and insensitive for staff to do it inside the office. the management strictly implement this policy. although there are some who tried to hide in the bathroom and smoke there but the smoke---can't be kept so the management knows that this is happening. of course action was taken.

I do not smoke and feel that no one should smoke. This is bad for health. I would not recommend any one to smoke but at the same time not in the work place for sure. I will do my best to oppose this :)

i hate that the world has become all anti-smoking this is very unfair for the smokers which are far more that the non smokers! do smokers hunt non smokers? no, but non smokers do hunt the smokers! unfair again! my parents smoke and i know how hard it is for them not to smoke at work and i think that theur qualiti of providing job would increase if they were allowed to smoke while working

Thank you, I think it should be up to the individual person. Nobody should be able to tell you to quit smoking or anything else for that matter.

that's true and everyone says how tolerant they are but they prove themselves wrong by forcing smokers to quit smoking here in bg there was a proposal for punishin the smokers and rewarding the non smokers

My company just changed the attendance policy. During the last big snowfall ( we got about 8" ) over half the employees didn't make it in. Now no matter what the weather ( even if the plant is flooded & under water ) if you don't clock in for at least half your scheduled workday your getting pointed. Too many points & your out! Guess I'll have to get to work on that sled so I can get my dogs to pull me the 45 miles to work & build an ark.

Smoking here (in NY) isn't allowed in Restaraunts, Public Places, or Workplaces. My office does have a designated smoking area though that's right outside the building - it's a covered area and everything. The only reason why they prohibit smoking in the building is because it's against the law and it could be a potential fire hazard since it's a high-rise building!

In my area smoking is strictly prohibited at public places. People are allowed to smoke at their homes but they can't practice it at public places. The culprit is fined and in some cases they may be put behind the bars. To some extent this activity has been controlled. But some people are not ready to leave this practice as they are in habit of it. It will be hard for them lo leave it. But they have to leave it.

Here is the way I see it, for many years I couldn't go to bars and dance clubs, or places like that, because I have a very severe asthma and many people would be smoking in those places, so that was out of the question for me, until a couple of years ago that they put the law here in USA that you can't smoke in close places, so then people like me could go and have fun like everybody else. The thing is when you smoke, everybody else around you is inhaling the smoke, and for many people this is very bad for their health, smokers should be responsible for dealing with their own addiction, but the rest of the people shouldn't have their health in jeopardy for that.

Well starting the 1st of March Michigan passed a new law where you can not smoke in any building including bars and casinos. I have recently quit smoking as well so this will not effect me much anymore but I do feel for the people it will effect. It does make it better now that I can take my family out and not having to worry about getting a smoke free area when we go out
