Philippine Military should be Modernized, NOW

Hello Lotters, most specially Pinoys, You know there has been a lot of controversies with this institution. the part of the government that should be protecting us. but instead, they sell weapons to our enemies, which caused the Oakwood mutiny and Peninsula hotel incident. then, selling arms to land lords and private arms of other politicians(ampatuans) which resulted deaths among media men. But that wasn't just the case. recently, I've watched news of military encounters with rebels. first, mortars aren't firing due to some clogged or rust in it's parts and then a m16 rifle jammed for some reason that he decided to video taped the battle (what?) Then recently, an airplane crash killing a pilot, civilians and a General. it's not the pilot's fault i was looking at the plane, and wow this isn't the kind of plane that should be use by the first air-force, kidding me? this type of plane is supposed to be inside the museums. there was even a pilot that got jailed claiming that parts of plane vehicles are being sold to the black market. What has our Military turning into? while others are advancing we are degrading and deteriorating.soon, it won't be long before the Military is only as equally powerful as the rebels, or more than powerful. So, this is what our military has turn into? i only bradley and apcs but not tanks.

Hey Letranknight, If I am right two armies in the Philippines are in fierce combat with each other. Those two armies should stop first before even thinking about upgrading. There is just no sense in upgrading something as evil as an army if they can't force themselves to put their weaponry to good use: defending their own country. Not fighting in your own country against your own people over something as simple as religion. That's just my opinion

i think letranknight was referring to the kinds of rebels, one is the New People's Army (communist) and some rebel muslim factions who don't like the government staying in mindanao. upgrade is really necessary to defeat these infidels. too bad, the governments arms is not as good and rusting.

Let me get this straight he means the official army which has to defeat both the groups of rebels. Then yes they should be stopped. Fighting over a religion is pathetic. Religion is supposed to mean love and peace but nowadays you'd start to think otherwise.

Hello diamania, Nope, it's not religion that they're fighting for, this is not middle east. first, one wanted to defeat the government and spread communism in to the country. and the second simply doesn't want government presence in the big island because it's their ancestors land. simply those rebels are just plain nuts, some have actually agreed for a continued for peace process. and lastly, the islamic terrorist allied with al queda. my god, so many enemies.

It is really sad that military is becoming neglected when it comes to modernizing their armory and equipments. I think it still is an issue that is related to corruption that is why it is very hard for them to really modernized because of the kickbacks they can only purchase the poorly made equipments whereas if these could have been avoided we could have purchased a much better quality from the suppliers. Also when it comes to planes I guess most of them are donated from US so we can expect a much weaker planes that eventually is not good.

Hello rsa, the last time i heard that they purchased weapons was from taiwan or thailand i think and this was during their war with the milf and mnlf during eraps time. with the recent news of equipments in arms and planes falling apart, there's no surprising that more people are gonna due to this negligence.

There are budgets for this every year but they haven't been used for the right things and end up being corrupted by some high officials. We are a shame on that department but they still corrupt everything. I pity those soldiers who fought and lost their lives for the country because they have been ripped off of their lives even if they have not yet been in battle

Hello hexe, I agree with you there my friend, this department is doing a lot of picking cents and millions leaving nothing for the soliders with nothing but they're pitiful three thousand pesos salary (ninety dollars) and they pay it all in taxes, and leaves nothing but a few hundreds for their needsthey should increase they're benefits.

Hello bart, If I am not mistaken, we are still using f5 jet fighters as a defense, and some tora tora fighter planes. but hello those planes were deadly during the 1960's, and this is 2010 now, and they're still using those junks, is actually what we only have. no wonder military in other countries have started poking on us.

Too much corruption. You would not believe how much people have to pay in bribe money to even GET their income tax papers filed. Sigh. Anyway there doesn't seem to be hope for it. Sometimes I wonder why we have a military institution in the first place when all it does is churn out fat police, send soldiers to Mindanao or they end up leaving the country all together and fight in Iraq or somesuch.

hello pipay you were referring to the people being sent overseas like the peace keepers of UN. fat cops? i think some of them where actually re-trained and lost their belly that's really good because they shouldn't be like where there is a pursuit situation.
