WTF was that?

Spain

Hello, everyone. We had a great day out yesterday. We went to a mediaeval market in Orihuela, Spain. The Spanish really throw themselves into these things - everyone's in costume, there are animals wandering through the streets, straw strewn on the cobbles, knights and varlets fighting, singing and dancing - you name it, it happens. We'd just sat down for a well-earned rest and some tapas and wine, when something caught my eye. I turned to Tony and said: 'Look, there's a man in a bear's suit. I bet he's hot.' (It was about 25 degrees - the warmest day this year) As Tony turned to look, the 'man in bear's suit' went down on all fours, and followed his trainer! It was a real bear - no muzzle, chain or anything. I've never seen one so close, and I was mesmerised. It would never happen in England, because of health and safety concerns, but here, everyone just does what they want. So my question is this: Have you ever been surprised by something you saw when you were out and about? Have you ever been in the position where you could hardly believe the evidence of your own eyes?

Hello, Dawn. When you saw Bruce Willis in the blonde wig - had you by any chance been partaking of substances? Just wondering ...

oh my! No, we wouldn't have seen that in the States either! I didn't think bears could be trusted that much - maybe it was still pretty young and bottle raised by the fellow

Hello, Elic. I don't think so - when it was on its hind legs, it was well over 6' tall. If that was a baby, I wouldn't want to be around when Mum and Dad turned up.

Just because a critter has reached their full size, doaesn't mean they are actually "grown up."

Hello, Gabs. It didn't look very cuddly to me, at well over 6' tall on its hind legs. It was obviously well trained, though, and he looked healthy and happy. I was absolutely gobsmacked.

Bears are very sweet animals. I know many stores about people creating friendship with bears. When growing up with humans, bears are very friendly and less aggressive then dogs. Maybe you saw Brutus? http://alturl.com/d3tg

Sandra1952, Let me see.... First there was the time (2 decades ago) when I was still single and taking a tour in Kaoshiung, Taiwan, where our tour guide in Taiwan told us that it would be nice to take a evening walk by the Love River and as it was close by the Underground Street Market a notorious night market where you can literally buy anything at a bargain, the group and I said "why not?" So, all the 12 single bachelors started, what turn out to be a harrowing walk of our lives. It was basically a red light district where the brothels were actually operating in the open, we were pulled, groped and molested!! Then, there was another time in Thailand, where my hotel room was mistakenly given away to another couple. Mistake by the front office where they misplaced my check in registration and hotels were still using lock and key system. After a baffling session at the reception counter at how my key could not be found and forgetting to check against the register because I am one of their regular guests. They had their security's escort detail to open the door and when we heard the groans and moans - we rushed in as all of us thought that someone had been robbed or stabbed. Oh, yea, the honeymoon couple - they were being stabbed alright..pleasurably if I may add. They were actually making out in my room!! Imagine the odd moment meeting them again at breakfast the next morning. As for animals, I wonder how you feel waking up in the morning besides a 12 foot python alias Anaconda, during my trekking tour in Myanmar where our guide forgot to put sulphur around the campsite. Fortunately, it had just finished a meal of a baby wild boar or it would have been me in there. How's that for the memory, huh?

You are welcome, Sandra1952. Well, I've also had my fair share when I was in Paris, but I think that was pretty mild compared to the experience at the Love River where one of us (guys) might have gotten RAPED if they had managed to have it their way! As for the hotel episode, I feel the couple were more embarrassed than me as the couple made a jump of their lives from whatever they were doing when the whole lot of us rushed in with the lights on. So, what did they say about double locking your hotel rooms when you turn in? Traveling could be fun but it can be quite an experience, if I may add here. Anyway, they will be memories for me now and I would still prefer to travel if I have the chance.

I'm surprised that even in Spain they can do that these days Sandra. But then again they still fight bulls. Not me, but someone that I knew was taking a shower in Nepal when up the plug hole came a pretty little multi-coloured snake! Also the most poisonous type of snake in that district! My friend screamed and was rescued by a man who literally broke the door down, picked her up and carried her out. Whilst out there I once came across a hornet buzzing about the light of the toilet whilst I tried to do my business. Best laxative known to man!!!!

Hello, Pikey. Yes, I was surprised, but don't forget they do run the bulls through the streets of Pamplona, and somewhere they do something dangerous with donkeys as well - it escapes me for the moment. I would have hated to be your friend in the shower, and I don't like the sound of that hornet either. I think I'll cross Nepal off my 'must visit' list.

Hopefully soon enough I'd be in that kind of position. But I'm more interested in medieval suit of armor and swords though. Think that would be great.
