Masqureade and Carnival at Venice

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think Carnival starts soon in Venice. I've only been to Venice once and that was in the summer but it is a gorgeous place- romantic and timeless. I can only imagine how it is during Carnvial. Has anyone ever been during that time?
