It had to come didn't it? Another Mad Max film. Rumour has it that our very own Tom Hardy (of Star Trek:Nemesis fame) is due to play the lead role, presumably because Mel Gibson is getting on a bit. So, what do you think? Personally, I wasn't a big fan of the original Mad Max films but if Tom Hardy is in the new one, maybe I'll start liking it. Besides being lovely to look at he CAN ACT!!

I think they should leave the film series in the past. They are Australian classics with a big cult following and I think the whole image of that would be ruined by making a new one with another actor. I have never heard of Tom Hardy. Who is he?

YOU HAVE NEVER HEARD OF TOM HARDY!!!!! He's fast becoming England's finest exports lol. He has appeared in allsorts over here, the most noteable being "The Take" based on a book by Martina Cole, "Wuthering Heights" that I MISSED and was very upset about it, erm, what else, "Stuart: A Life Backwards" about a homeless guy in Oxford. Oh, and "Star Trek: Nemesis." Surely you've seen the last one? He has a bald head in it lol.

Ah, now that I see the discussion in myLot and not in the email, I see who he is!

I have never seen any Star Trek films whatsoever as science fiction movies are not that appealing to me. No I had never heard of him before and he does not look familiar, but now I know! LOL

So is this a remake or a sequel? I would be more interested in a sequel, a whole new movie, than a remake but I would still watch both. I LOVE Mad Max and Road Warrior but I never really got into Beyond Thunderdome.

Now that does sound interesting. I haven't seen Tom Hardy act but the head shot is enough to convince me he fits the part! I also really like Charlize Theron, I think she would really suit that type of movie.

Tom Hardy went off the rails a bit as Nemesis didn't kick-start his Hollywood career like he thought it would. He's been very busy since then though so his reward is the Mad Max film by the looks of it. I've not seen him in anything bad yet so fingers crossed he will do the film justice.

It will be called Mad Max: Fury Road apparently and is billed as a sequel to the ones that went before. Trust me, it will have a chance of succeeding with Tom Hardy in it and Charlize Theron is in it too I believe.

I'm not a fan of remakes. I don't think that remakes can be an improvement on the original. I am a fan of Mel Gibson and as stated by some one else the Mad Max series is classic. It's like the film makers or writers can't come up with something new. Go ahead make the film but don't try to remake those old films. They are never as good no matter who plays they.

I tend to agree with you, on the whole. Some remakes have been good though. I can think of one that springs to mind; Oceans 11.

Well being the film geek that I am I was instantly drawn to this discussion . Personally I don't want another Mad Max movie, not becuase I didn't like the originals because I loved them. It's because they will not be able to capture the rawness which made the originals the cult movies they have become. Now to Mel Gibson, well he didn't want to make the third one but was contractually obliged to. Now all these years later and having forged a career for himself that differs from the style of the road warrior he has no intention of going back for a fourth. Don't blame him either. Yes it looks like Tom Hardy will be taking up the role of Max, although seeing that this fourth part has been knocking on for a few years it wouldn't surprise me if that changes. Another great British export who is penned to star in it is Nicholas Hoult.

Thanks for that response, I knew you would be more knowledgeable than me on this subject. Yes, I suppose the original Mad Max films did have a certain feel to them...definitely unique and I don't think that can be recaptured as you said. Rather like the latest Star Trek film which I thought was cack lol.

Hi Janey1966, I think the fans of the Mad Max series will be glad to at least hear some news about Mad Max 4, though I am sure there will be some that will not like the choice of Tom Hardy as Max but I think he will be good in the role, he was excellent in Star Trek. We have only been waiting for the new Mad Max film for, oh just 20 odd years I for one can't wait for it

Well, the thing with Tom Hardy is that he is extremely versatile and throws himself into any role that comes his way. For example, he will pile on the pounds for one role and lose loads of weight for another, just so he looks authentic. He played "Bronson" a nutter who's been a prisoner for years and he actually went to meet him to get an idea of how he behaved, his mannerisms, how he talked, etc. He even became his mate! Fancy that! I've not seen it yet...but I will! I believe he was intense in "Wuthering Heights" too. Again, I missed it but Mum assures me he was very good! Apparently, he went a bit off the rails when Nemesis didn't do as well as he thought it would...but I'm glad he's back to his brilliant best. I'm sure he will do justice to the part. I hope so for his sake lol. He was ace in "The Take." Was that shown in Ireland? It was on Sky One over here.
