How do you OPEN up?

I think it works differently for everyone but each of us have a way to open in conversations and parties, some evidently longer but I'm one of those in-between where it doesn't take much for me to have a conversation. How about you? How do you open in various situations knowing that at times it may be boring, uncomfortable or even awkward? What about just talking for the heck of talking like how we do so here on mylot, how do you open up to a discussion?
