Do People Ever Say You Should Dress Your Age?

I'm going to be 28 this April, and I guess I do try to dress a bit hiper than I should, and I know I'm closer to 30 than to 22, but I enjoy dressing like a college kid, has anyone ever told you to dress younger? or to dress your age? How did it make you feel and react?

honestly, people wonder how old i truly am. when i was 25, an immigration officer asked me if school was out for me, he thought i was still in high school and i was dressed so casually. it's flattering but when you want people to take you seriously, you really exert an effort. nowadays, i go for the classics because i'm already thirty but jeans and shirts remain to be staples. when people mistake me for a 23 year old, i just say, 'thanks, i guess...but i'm thirty.'

It's more like act your age thingy and dressing up is maybe part of acting your age. But personally, I don't really mind, as long as it's not disturbing or offensive in any way,*LOL*...Just Imagine an eighty-year old in a tube.HAHA!

Don't let what others think rule you or cause you to stop doing something that you enjoy. I'm almost 55 years old...a grandmother...and co-owner along with my husband of a motorcycle shop. We ride Harleys. I wear what I like, according to the occasion of course. I wear jeans, boots with studs...get some of my clothes from Hot Topic because I like them. Right now I have a couple of burgundy streaks in my hair. My earrings have not matched since 1972...and my favorites are the ones with feathers. There was a time when I had to dress a certain way while I was at work because I was in management but, on my own time, I have always worn what I like. People have made comments a time or two as the years have gone by but I don't let anyone's opinions about what I wear or how I look bother me...unless it's my husband. If he says that something doesn't look good on me, he's telling me the truth and I respect that.

i've always been fascinated by fashion but am not fashionable. it's just that i like to be aware of what's in and what's out and fashion is a form of art that i appreciate. in connection with this i discovered that the basic staples almost most of the time doesn't change with age. well, unless one is a grandma already and that is when jeans is a big no no. like, do you know that as one ages the appropriate color of jeans should tend to be on the darker side? so, forget the faded ones. actually, there are many pictures going around the net of best dressed women that some of them may be close to your age. they could provide a good example. nobody has ever told me to dress my age. or dress even younger. it's just that since i tend towards classics i have been told that i always look vintage. but that's okay. even kate moss does vintage every now and then and she's my age.

I work in an office environment, yet most of the people here dress whatever they like. There are a few that wear the tie and long sleeve shirts, but since most here are fresh grad engineers, they just come-in in jeans and regular tee. I am way older than these engineers, but I often find myself dressing like them. Only if I have meetings and such will I dress up for work. Thankfully, never have I been told to dress my age.

I dress pretty old for my age. I'm 20, but I dress like a person in their 30's.. but with class and style. I like to mix trends but not showing too much. But some days I dress for my mood.

I'll be thirty in September. My outfit for today: a long-sleeved black tee, a knee-length black skirt, white leggings, and tall gray socks slouched at my knees and secured with sock garters. Oh, and black, white, and gray argyle arm warmers. I had several teenagers compliment me on how awesome I looked. Of course, on further questioning, they all guessed my age at about 18. So I suppose I get off lucky in that I look young enough that most people don't question it when I dress young. But when people who know me (and thus my age) see me dressed that way, sometimes they pick on me. Do I care? NOPE!
