get Alienware M17x. It has THE HIGHEST SPECS and DUAL Nvidia GTX 280m SLI(THE STRONGEST mobile GPU so far) i also would recommend laptops from ASUS, Toshiba, HP and MSI.

I think Acer is right on the money, nowadays. Their laptops may not have the speediest processors, nor the best configurations (I think Apple, HP, Sony Vaio, and Toshiba have those), but Acer is the perfect balance for price/value for money, and then quality. I think they are going head-to-head with Asus on the perfect balance of beauty vs price. I think you should go for it, if you're considering Acer. :) I like their Timeline series: long battery life, great, sexy design, and great keyboards. :D

as regards different brands it depends also from tastes normally big brands in some cases are similar as configuration may be prices can change depending from brands as well!! Surely as regards processor i think now a good one is core i7 for high performances or a core i5 can be suitable for a general use as regards laptop!!Surely processor is not the only thing you can see because if you ahve a good processor but a low ram sometimes performances are nto as good as you think..so normally you need to upgrade ram too i think 4 gb is a balanced ram if you want really high performances surely you need 6-8 as in many pc-game!! as regards graphic perfromance i think nvidia is till the best even if ati radeon now improved very much their card too!!

AS FAR AS MY KNOWLEDGE IS CONCERNED REGARDING LAPTOP BRANDS, I HAD STARTED A DISCUSSION REGARDING BEST LAPTOP BRANDS, YOU SHOULD HAVE TO SEE MUST ..... APART FROM MY DISCUSSION, I WOULD RECOMMEND YOU APPLE, DELL, HP, SONY ETC BECAUSE THEY ARE THE BEST BRANDS AVAILABLE WORLDWIDE BECAUSE OF UNMATCHED QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE UNLIMITED, YOU CAN GRAB IT ONCE OF THEM, LATEST PROCESSOR IS INTEL CORE i7, EITHER YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE FROM CORE i3 and i5 INTEL PROCESSORS, IT MAY VARY TO VARY FROM YOUR NEED

These days laptop world very competitive. Every laptop has got its own feature. Thus it is quite hard to decide which laptop you should purchase. But based on my experience as a student I would go for Dell Laptops. They are very much up to the expectation ans requirement of people.

in U.S. i guess most prefer Toshiba.. they are really good and require low maintenance than its counter parts.but costly though.... otherwise, you could go for dell.. price is affordable and they got some good servicing too...

You can choose any brand, but make sure the after sales service is available in your town. If budget is not an issue you can choose a quad core processor with at least 4GB RAM and 1GB dedicated VGA and also 320GB Hard drive.

It is very hard to say the "BEST" laptop. By the "Best" you mean here, does it refer to performance, cost, outlook? In my opinion, if the laptop is only aim for general use, you really don't need a best processor / hardware, every laptop which in a range between 500~700 is enough and suitable.
