I Have a Little Girl on the Way

I guess I am just being a proud daddy at this point but I also have a few questions. I have a little girl due in 6 weeks but I am almost positive that we have a week tops before she decides it's time to come. This is my first child, my fiance's second. I know that I am probably just being the over-reactive scared daddy but how big of a risk is it for a baby to be 6 weeks early? I've been going crazy lately and I really could use some reassurance.

I don't know a whole lot to tell you, but the baby, of course will be very small. The doctors can do miracles now with early babies. At the hospital where my daughter gave birth 2 weeks ago, they suddenly had to take her to get a c-section, because the baby wasn't strong enough to go through the strenuous labor. They had the baby out from the time they came in the room and taking the iv's and her bed, the baby was born within 7 minutes. That's how well and quickly they work. They are set up for emergencies like that as well as they are to deliver a full-time pregnancy. Yes, it's normal for you to be scared, but God knows your baby will be fine. They will have to keep her in an incubator for a while with 24 hour monitoring. That'll give your wife sometime to get her strength back. At 33 weeks they told my daughter she could have her baby anytime. She had the baby 5 days before the due date, but because she had high blood pressure, so they wanted to induce. Otherwise even tho the doctor told her any day a 7 weeks early, she went all the way. I will pray everything's okay. Keep us posted, and congratulations daddy!

Thank you. I definately say a prayer anytime I think of it during any given day. I wish I could spend every second with her but I work 2 jobs and let me tell you the hours I spend at those jobs are nerve racking. I hate not knowing what's going on at home with the love of my life and my little daughter inside of her. You definately made me feel better about things though, thank you.

Congratulations! I think you would do better to read info on preemies online at a site that specializes in maternity and medical information. Of course the best source is your fiance's doctor.
