It's Snowing!

It is snowing in central Arkansas. This is the third time this year that we have gotten snow or sleet and the schools have closed. The kids and I are just staying inside, warm and dry. My husband went in to work this morning but called about 11am to say he was on his way home. What do you do on a snow day? Do things shut down because of snow or is it so common that life proceeds as normal for you?

Hi there caver! I hope things are going well with you! We have had a heck of a lot of snow over here this year too and more forecast for this week too. At the moment we have freezing fog which I presume will mean that everything is all covered in white tomorros and I hope it doesn't snow before this lifts or it will be so dangerous on the roads. Here schools close once the roads get bad. People try and make it to work but when it is really bad and for those who work in the towns on the lower part of the mountains, it is often impossible to reach their wpork place. I stayed over at work for tow nights in December when there was the heaviest fall. Thank goodness I work in an hotel! If I am at home when it snows I stay in. I can find things to d to keep me busy, especially on here. It's warm indoors and I am not keen on walking in the snow and I don't driv in it all. I get lifts or taxis if no-one is available. Thank goodness sproing is round the corner because I have seen enough snow for this year!

We were without power for about 3 hours this afternoon. So, no computer time for anyone. On a snow day, with the kids home, I have to share the computer, so being home doesn't always mean I have more time on MyLot.

My sister in Ohio was without electricity from midnight until mid-day the next day. She went to bed lol I guess with young children around that is not an option.

If it is a large snow storm, everything shuts down. We have had about 3 large storms. I stay inside and work on my computer, if the lights do not go out. The kids go out and play in it. My oldest son will dig out the cars in case we have to go somewhere. We drink a lot of hot cocoa. Happy posting.

We are having some flurries today, but it shouldn't amount to anything. (cross fingers) Last week when we were snowed in I wanted some hot cocoa. When I got the box of instant hot cocoa out it was hard. Don't know how long it had been in there. So I made it from scratch. Don't remember ever doing that before. It turned out pretty good. Keep warm.

I rarely get snow days anymore since I've started working for a big university. We tend to get off work only when it's truly bad out and today just happened to be one of those days where they canceled work. When I do get off because of the weather I make a point to do things I may not get to do or just to be lazy and sleep in. I really don't do anything special when it comes to snow days, it's really just another day.

I would have loved to sleep in, but the school has a new auto-call system set up and it called at 5:16 this morning to let us know that school was closed.

Hi, caver1. When it snows here, it will be many places that would be closed down until further notice. And it will be an two-hour delay somewhere too. We have not had any snow yet. I wonder if we are getting any too. Continue to stay warm and safe in this snow. Take care of yourself.

The weatherman said today that he thinks every state in the US has had snow this year except Florida. Maybe you will get some or maybe you would rather not have any snow.

Around here, pretty much the entire city has to shut down before any schools are canceled. I know because I remember having to go to school years ago in some of the worst weather. Thankfully, I had taken the bus so I did not have to drive in it. However, I had to wait for the bus, which had broken down in the cold weather and was forty five minutes late. It takes an extraordinary amount of snow to shut down anything around here, schools especially. These days when it snows, I just sit down and relax, while waiting for the worst of it to be over and then deal with the mess that has to be cleaned up later. The aftermath is often times even more worse than the snow storm.

Here in the southern US, we just aren't well prepared for snow. Lots of people don't know how to drive in it and that makes it dangerous for anyone to be out on the roads. They will try to clear roads and sand bridges, but there is not enough equipment to get it done quickly. I think the schools are afraid to run the bus routes because of that. They have already cancelled schools for tomorrow.
