So I have recently heard of a place called Centralia it's in PA. For those who have never heard of it it is a borough in PA that has had a fire burning beneath it since the 60's and it will probably continue to burn for at least another 100 years. The town started out with a population in the 2000 range and has dwindled down to maybe 3 to 5 people today because many people were forced to leave their homes in the 80's when gasses caused people to become ill. The fire was a coal fire and one of the coals were ignited in one of the coal mines from what I heard the fire could have been put out for an amount of money in the thousands range but they didn't have the money to fund it or didn't want to, but the government eventually had to pay in the millions so people could move. It's sad that so many people had to leave their homes and the their town in which many of them had lived for a long time. There are many areas there that are dangerous to travel near due to dangerous gasses and sink holes, but it would be an interesting thing to see if you stay on higher ground. The people that live there now are not on the side of town that was affected as much. For more information go to google and look the town up. It's a very interesting situation. I would like to hear peoples opinions on the town if they have ever been there, it would be really cool to hear from someone who actually lived there around the time of the fire or at all. It was once a very thriving town and it is sad so many people had to lose their homes due to a mistake that was made. Anyone that has any opinions on the town or who wants to share any information about it that I may have not listed or may not know would be cool. I would like to hear anything anyone has to say about it.

I find this very interesting as well. I think it would be a great place to visit, and try and learn about the borough.
