I would say im a big fan of 1970s horror films. it was the time when i think horror films had the atmosphere and sense of being horrific. Today's most good horror films was based actually on 1970's films. "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" was a remake from 1974 film. And so with "The Last House on the Left". This just tells us that some good movies of today were only versions of good old movies of 1970s.

I would say that most horror films before the year 2000 were superior to much of what is classed as horror now. Back then horror was all about building tension and atmosphere so that you become shocked by something as inoccuous as the phone ringing when it breaks a deadly silence. It was that element of surprise which made these older horror movies work as they built up the fear factor. Now all we get is an over indulgence of visuality where gore, gore and more gore is suppose to make us scared rather than the actual storyline. All it does for me is make me cringe rather than scare me.
