The Electronic Key Impressioner consists of a sensor that goes into the lock and sends information back to a computer via USB about the location of the lock's tumblers—a corresponding computer program comes up with the code, depending on the make of car you've entered beforehand. Once you know the code, a key-cutting machine can use it to carve up a key. The current prototype works only for Fords—Randall's next step is to program the machine to work with cars from a wide range of companies. Some keys are more complicated than this system can anticipate. For example, many car keys have transponders in them, so even if a newly cut key can open a car, it won't be able to start it. But tools exist already for locksmiths to crack transponder codes—and there are plenty of cars out there that still use simple, old-fashioned key technology. [thanks to Popular Mechanics]

Interesting indeed. I always figured that the best way to steal a car would be with a disguise. If you were to dress up as a roach or something, nobody would question the sight of you holding a crowbar and breaking a window with it. I mean, people never try to stop bugs from getting in vehicles, unless it's their own car. It's the perfect way to drive off in somebody elses ride without getting caught.

Hmmm! I have never really known this much about the Electronic Key Impressioner! I am just so surprised to know that such a really cool device actually exists! Well, but then, won't it be used for wrong purposes by thieves? Well, I remember seeing the movie called Gone in 60 Seconds where he steals cars! Also, a really good post!
