I use a 4gb thumb drive if when I'm mobile, 250GB 3.5 external drive for back up at home and a 160Gb 2.5in external drive sometime if I'm outside and needed to backup files larger than my thumb drive can store. My external drives are actually desktop and laptop hard drives that I put into external enclosures. It is less expensive than buying an actual external hard drive like the WD Passport or something.

i use both for carrying data hard disk portable and flash disk, but it depends for how much capacity carrying its save, because if your data save in hard disk portable or flash disk to full capacity from the max capacity.it can depend your performance of the hardware(flash disk or hard disk portable example: if max capacity 8GB you only save for the storage 75% only (6-7GB only)

It depends on the size of the data you are talking about. On a weekly basis I carry out a backup of all my important data and I keep this on my external hard drive which plugs into my computer via its usb port. The size of the drive is 250gb so it has quite a lot of space on it and it looks like one of those small whiskey flasks, quite trendy. I wouldn't want to carry this around with me though. I have two usb memory sticks for that purpose. I have a 2gb and a 4gb memory stick. These memory sticks are very convenient but they can't hold too much in the way of data. I was using them when I was attending college. Andrew

I use to have two copies for my data. one is the external hard disk and back up in CD. so, If I lose any one, I can have the other copy of data. I feel these two data storages would be fine.

It depends on how much data you want to carry with you wherever you go. An 8gb usb would be enough for me but there are times when I need to copy movies/music/game from a friend so I always have my external hard drive when I go to the office. The speed for me is fairly decent. I'm not in a hurry anyway.

I use both an external hard disk and a USB thumb drive for carrying data around. And the external hard disk has a backup of all the files in the thumb drive. My external hard disk is mostly used for storing big ISO files, videos, and archives of my photo collections. The thumb drive is carried around with me more often as it is much lighter and the 8GB storage can contain information which I use more often, like ebooks, portable software, and music files.
