Which are your magic foods?

It occurred to me recently that coffee is magic. Up until then I was a big tea fan and wasn't so used to drinking coffee. Then someone made me an espresso and wow, I'm a convert. Well, that's putting it mildly.. Boom, I was under some kind of spell!! Just one sip and it makes me feel, well, magical! The flavour, or perhaps the flavour combined with the smell, the caffeine, some kind of textural thing and a certain mystery'je ne sais quoi' makes me feel like nothing else can. And just when I was thinking that this is the only foodstuff that has this magical effect on me, along comes garlic! Which causes a similar but unique effect. Garlic makes me happy. It's flavour is powerful and potent and mysterious. And when you smell garlic outside a restaurant it makes you want to go in, no? I might not have explained this very well, (maybe my special foods have sent me a little loopy, maybe it's due to it being the witching hour..), but for me these are truly unique and magical things. They make me happy and the world seem like a much better place. Which foods are magical for you?

Well, there's the mushrooms growing in the park on the other side of the road, they're so magical the university (which owns the park) is doing it's best to keep their location hidden! Apart from that, it's chocolate of course. And coke. Far too much coke actually, but it's not mushroom season now ;-)

I can only drink two cups of coffee a day as it makes me feel ill. However, a good pork sausage will always make me smile as will any shellfish or a roast chicken. I do drink a lot of tea and find them quite comforting. Tiny roast potatoes are another as is a good home made soup - any flavour except minestrone. Then I'm pretty fond of my Mother's sherry trifle too... I'm getting carried away. That's rather a lot of magical foods. I guess you might just say that I love food! Oh yes - rare roast beef with just a hint of horseradish sauce to clear the sinuses......
