The Town of Renfrew (Where I once Lived)and Yoker on the other bank of the River Clyde,Scotland have had a ferry service between them across the river for 500 Years (News Item),although the Larger Car carrying ferry that I'd have travelled on in my time was retired (And moved up the river to Glasgow where it was converted to a floating restaurant/venue,but that's another story!)in favour of a smaller passenger only service after I left there in the mid '70's..(just a coincidence..Honest!
) Now,Trials there are ongoing to check out an "Amphibus" for the route -A coach designed to float, with jetski type engines for while in the water! Somebody posted video of the trials on Youtube-try search words Renfrew/ferry/Amphibus to find them!
So..to my question..What's the most unusual way you've ever crossed a River?!

I was at Mammoth Caverns and there this little river that runs thru it
On it was this tiny - 3 car ferry (maybe one bus?)
Now, this "river" was only about 8 cars across so its not like it took a long time for the ferry to go back and forth, but it was... interesting.
Mom and I got there before the ferry guy did. We watched him, get out of his car, get in this little row boat, row out to the ferry and tie it up, then he started the ferry.
WITHOUT a doubt, the most interesting ferry I've ever seen!

That's a car carrying ferry boat inside a cave system? Wow... that's cool...
The Marble Arch Cave system in County Fermanagh,Northern Ireland isn't far away from where I live now,and I've visited it a few times and posted some photos here..there's a river running through it,and part of the walking tour there involves a boat trip along the river, underground! A pleasure trip on a boat is fun,but this is very peaceful..

Ah-Now I got it :)
There's a Bar/restaurant and holiday home village on Lusty Beg Island near Me in Lough Erne that's accessible only by boat,or by a small chain driven ferry like that one...
