Dodo is a bird. it has been extinct recently due to intervention of we humans. The term "as extinct as dodo" is used to denote something which has goon extinct.

A dodo is a bird called Mauritius Dodo or simply dodo. A flightless bird related to the pigeon that lived on mauritius and has been extinct since the mid-late 17th century.

dodo is a bird. it was first found in 1598 by portuguese sailors on the island of mauritius. by 1681 it became extinct due to humans settling in the place. for more info try this link: http://davidreilly.com/dodo/background/html then again dodo may not be extinct after all, as he just posted right above me!LOL!
