Do you wear your ID cards after your working hours are over?

ID cards are common when you are working in a company/oraganization or even studying in school/college/university. Sometimes we don't wear these ID cards, and end up paying fine or marked absent. Do you have the habit of wearing ID cards regularly? And, Do you remove it after the working hours or you still continue to wear until you reach home? What's the reason for not removing? Are you proud or simply lazy to remove? Personally, I remove it as soon as I step out of my college. One reason I can quote is I am scared that I might lose it and have to pay to replace it. On my way back from college, I see a number of people wearing their id cards in buses, railways stations, markets etc. I wonder why?

Hello Rakesh, I used to work for the Government in a store selling booze (sorry cant write the "L" word) They wanted us to wear ID cards with our full name on it. Our Union refused to have us wear one stating that we might be found since our last name was showing. I wouldnt want to wear an ID card with my last name showing. I dont feel its safe for just everybody to know my full name. So for me, the less information strangers know about me, the more safe I am.

I've quit working a few months back. But I do not wear my ID card after work hours. I've seen many people who wear theirs and sometimes it's in their pocket with the chain around their neck or hanging from their pockets. I usually leave my ID card in the workplace. Because I had a toddler who would play with my cell phone, I usually had my cell phone around my neck. When I reached my workplace, I would take off my phone, put it in the cupboard(we are not allowed to use our cell phones during working hours) and put on my ID card and this was reversed as I leave for the day. So, I was never afraid of losing my ID card or forgetting to take it any day.

To be honest even at work place I do not wear my ID cards, but we bring it for emergency. It is not necessary for us to wear id and even the guards are not strict about it. I had seen some people wear their ID’s even they are out of their office, it is maybe they just wants to wear it. It looks good on their uniform and some forget to unwear it. And if necessary to wear id at work, I will keep it when I leave the office. I don’t want some people peeping at my id cards and knowing my name.

It has been a long time since I worked outside the house and it has been an even longer time since I worked at a place that required me to wear an ID badge. However, I do remember what my habit was when I worked at that place. I would wear my ID out to the car when I was leaving in the morning and once I got into the car I would hang it on my rearview mirror (I worked the graveyard shift) and then when I got to work in the evening, I would put on my ID before I got out of the car. I really didn't like to wear my ID when I wasn't working.

Yup, i always wear my id card.I am college student. If we don't wear it we are marked absent in class. So everyone wears it. Moreover we have a computer center in our college. The security doesn't allow us in if we don't have the id card. And after that we almost forget removing our id cards. It has become kind of a part of my body after using it for this long time.

Hi rakesh!^^ We don't wear our ID in our office because our Admin does not require us to do so. Even back when I was still in College. The school does not require the students to wear their IDs every now and then but they do require the ID to be presented before entering a place. In our office, there were times that I wore my ID. And sometimes, when I get off from work, I would forget to remove it. Yes, that's all the reason I have. I forget to remove it. Probably because it never became a habit to me to wear my ID everyday and remove it after five. So that's why in those few times that I wore my ID, I often forget that I am wearing one so I tend to forget to remove it when I get off from work.^^ I also do see a lot of working people who still wear their ID outside their work. Some people probably forget to remove it and some people are maybe just tired to remove it and just want to take it off when they get home and when they change clothes.^^

LOL, I have my card placed in a place where I would remember everyday to take it out and then when I leave the car to put it in my pocket, then when I take out my jacket, to wear it on. It becomes routine and then when I leave at the end of the day, it's the first thing I have in my hand, waiting for me to put it back in my place. I too, have a fine if I don't have my id or lost it.

Hi Rakesh, I always wear my ID even if it's after office hours. I commute and usually people lok at my ID. It's okay i don't feel awkward about wearing it after office hours--there's a purpose in it. my office and house keys are hang at the back of my ID and it makes my life easier everytime i need my keys. no need for me to be digging it out of my bag.

No i don't. I don't even wear it even inside company premises. I tend to misplace things easily so i make sure that my ID is in my bag at all times. It's not that i don't like to be identified by other people, but the hassles of getting a replacement is something that i do not like.

frankly, rakesh, i never wear id cards... i just show them for inspection purposes, but hardly clip them anywhere visible on my clothing or wear them as dog tags, hanging over the neck with a lace... those you see in buses and other public places, wearing thier id cards... they must have forgotten to remove it or they feel its not necessary until they reach home. still, others, wear id cards if they have a medical condition... this is a life-saving tool, if such condition happens in public...

I worked at a company where id badges were required to be worn on the floor. Now usually once i got home i would change, and 9 times out of 10 i would forget it on the shirt i was wearing. I usually clipped it at the bottom as we did not have to wear it anywhere in specific, just as long as it was visible. Because of where i would wear it, i would often end up still having it on after i left work, and if i was going out right after work would end up wearing it untill someone noticed it and said something to me. For me this was no big deal, all it was was a picture of me and my positon, though i can certainly understand how some people romve them immedietly, especially if there is a bad picture of you on it. I believe most people dont really think about removing their id badges untill they get home, and change, which may be why you see people wearing them on different modes of transportation. Also another reason could be that the person is proud of either where they work or go to school, and it is a way for them to show everyone that.

er....as i was a forgetful person and i have already suffer enough from forgetting to wear my ID card, i do not take off my ID card even after the working hours. but in my opinion, it is better to put it away after the working hour if you are not the forgetful person and do not have the same problem as me. because the ID card will keep reminding you who you are in the company, but what we need in our free time is another portrayer.

No, I definitely do not wear my ID card after work. Sometimes I don't even wear it at work, either, as they are not really strict about it. I can see how it could easily happen, though, that someone might leave work and forget to take it off.

Since I work at home I don't have to have a badge. So I don't wear one at all, not at home or outside the home.

I just started this job 2 weeks ago and we have to wear a badge 2 actually one with picture i.d. to clock in and one to get in the building when I first started I was wearing it around my neck going and leaving from the place but I got tired of it and saw that no one else was wearing theirs. Maybe they had it on a key chain or carried in their purse. Now I just carry it in my bag and when I arrive at work I put it in my drawer. But when I go to linch or break sometimes I seem to forget it.

I also take it off as soon as I leave the work area just so I would not misplace it elsewhere. It is common everywhere that losing an identification card will cost me more so I would rather take care of it by keeping it as soon as I leave the office. There are some that I know who does not keep it right away thus a bigger chance for them to lose it.

If I stopped by the store on my way home and I just got off work I would some times wear it in to the store. I worked at sitel and we had to have name badges and we wore them around our neck most of the time. I haven't worked in 2 years. My mom does that some times though but usually when she leaves one job she goes to another job and doesn't want to bring the other job home.

"Badges, I don't got no stinkin badges" comes from some movie I saw. I worked at this amusement park and as sort of a protest because I didn't get a promotion, I didn't wear my ID card at work. When I did wear it, I took it off as soon as I got home. And sometimes when I walked to work, I didn't wear the ID card until I entered the building and started working (if I wore the card.)
