On Time!

I am having problems with my internet connection. Sometimes I'm on and often I'm not. I spoke to my ISP and they promised to send someone out today after 8am. He arrived about 8.25! This is almost a first. Engineers never come when they say! He was polite - even took his shoes off when he came in - he probably took more muck out than he brought in - and knew what he was doing. The problems in their junction box somewhere up the street apparently and will be fixed over the weekend at no cost to me. Do work people visit when they say that they will where you live?

Have you been drinking or dreaming and imagining all this? Was he from another planet? He doesn't sound like anyone I've dealt with for a long while. Maybe he's like that 'cos you is so posh and he was scared.

I've experienced a lot of good customer service as well. In those times, my husband would say, wow I've never seen that before. As when he gets a nice person who actually helps him he feels very good and is less agitated with what should be done, but when they are clueless, you get the feeling you need to move onto the next knowledgable person to help you right.

And that's not to be rude but our time is limited as well.

There's nothing worse than thinking that the repair person is clueless. That's just so frustrating.

Hey friend. I've had much experiences in life till date and will have more in future. In my country Bangladesh, It's quite unbelievable to expect any important person (e.g. president, prime minister, any political leaders etc.) appear on time, let alone work people. In case of work people, they always have an excuse of being late. And we've got no alternative except believing them. I don't know when these situation will get better. Have a nice day.

Thank you. My experience right now is better than it has been for a long time. Let's hope that it stays that way.

not every single one of the service guys who promise, over the phone, to come to check and remedy our complaints, do really come on time. some don't even come at all. it's not that i have a bad impression of servicemen and trouble shooters of utility providers, it's just that this kind of promises that remain promises are many here in the philippines, especially when your place is what they call "out of way"... in some countries though, the service is prompt and no considerable waiting time... they even ask you to fill up and "job finished" or "problem solved" slip after remedying a problem you complained about...
@p1kef1sh (45681)

I have no complaints this time. I even called and thanked them for their service.

We tend not to get people to come out to here unless it's a free call or absolutely necessary and unavoidable and even then we try to wait till the service guy comes to someone else as well. They charge around $65 just to come out. I've been unlucky in this regard with people not turning up at all. Lucky you with your guy...I'll bet that's not the norm.
@p1kef1sh (45681)
20 Feb 10
It's not been my norm I know that! I guess where you are they have to come quite a way and that's why they charge so much. But not turning up at all is unforgivable.

Hi p1ke, For me no they don't! The only time they do is when they or I have made an appointment they come otherwise they are either ages to get to you about anything, my programmer for the water and heating needs to be repleaced it has taken them 3wks to get back to me as to when they will do it..can imagine they won't turn up on time too..hugs LoLo

12 Feb 10
Hi p1ke, what happens is that if I turn my heating that is ok but if I turn my water on my heating comes on..they have replaced a valve in the boiler but they reckon it is the programmer that is the problem asit is very loose and nearly coming off the wall..fortunatley they are mean to be coming out on Monday..hugs LoLo
@p1kef1sh (45681)
12 Feb 10
Does that mean that you can't turn the heating on or off LoLo. In this weather that's almost criminal! XXXX

no they never get here on time. plus if you get on the phone to have our cable internet speed fixed for connection problems, etc. you may be on there a good hour. it was like this in florida also except once when they sent an older man. he got there on time and explained things about how the laptop would work better then the tower pc i was using which was older. the laptop at that time was newer. and that worked when he switched me. he didnt have to go the extra mile and none of the others had. i'll bet it was an older fella came there to, right?

LOL. The first engineer was in his twenties and the second in his fifties! But they were both very good. I have no complaints.

Hi p1key, I have been lucky of late, but few years ago when I called the gas people to fix my boiler, they didn't turn up when they should have and after several phone calls three turned up like buses and then I called them the Three Stooges, one of them laughed but the oter two was not happy, nor was I when I have to wait around for them lol! hugs. Tamara xxxx

You are very lucky that you were able to have that kind of a positive experience. I've never had a positive experience like that when it comes to people that are coming to work in my house. Typically around here they will give you a two hour window that they are going to show up in, however, it is usually after that two hour period when the workers finally decide to show up. It drives me absolutely insane because it throws my entire day off kilter.

Most workers are as you describe. But I have no fault with this company.

With regards to my former internet connection, my ISP usually fix problems by remotely configuring whatever.Sometimes i would really think that they should come over to see whats happening here, when the problem seems to be unresolved remotely. But then , it would always get fixed by some things they do at the cell site. The problem with these providers is, sometimes they don't tell you it's their system that's causing the problem, cause you will really know they are saving money on obsolete systems. And i was at their mercy for so long. Now im having these cabled connections wherein u got a telephone line with it. So far , so good. :)

Mine is cable with TV, telephone and broadband. The problem was with a piece of hardware in the street. Good luck with yours.

Time-keeping is important in social life,but unluckily, some people wont follow the role.In my country,peoeple r always busy in worktime so they didnt keep time sometimes.For a long time ,i got used to them! I think one way for u is call the ISP on Friday to make sure that they'll fixed the box.They always have a very poor memory unless u remind them.
@p1kef1sh (45681)

They have mended it already. I was just visited by the engineer to tell me that it is all fixed now.

You know where i live, let alone come on time even if the engineer comes within its too good to be true. Its like i have to call a hundred times and get mad at them and than they respond to my problems and send me an engineer to get my internet working.

I've never had a problem with service people showing up on time. When I had my drains cleaned out a few weeks ago they came when they said they would and even called to tell me they were on their way! I should have done that a year ago rather than put up with slow drains. When I had my fiber optic installed for the television, phone and computer that guy was on time, too. I hear a lot of stories about people waiting all day for someone but it's never happened to me. I hope you're up to speed soon!! I remember when all that was available was dial-up and we thought it was a miracle of technology. These days we would find it unacceptable.
@p1kef1sh (45681)
12 Feb 10
That's good service from the drains people. Funnily enough our drains engineers were good too. I agree about the internet speed. Look at the first response here for slow service!!
• Canada
12 Feb 10
Nope, usually if they say they will be there between 8am and 6pm and they are usually closer to 6pm, sometimes later or even not at all. Meanwhile, you waited all day, to make sure you were 'available'. So, most times, I will ask for either a morning or afternoon appt. That way, I am only left waiting for half a day instead of a whole one.
@p1kef1sh (45681)
12 Feb 10
Most companies here now let you specify which half of the day that you prefer Annie. But this was excellent service and I am very pleased. They've even fixed the problem that they said they'd do over the weekend.
@jakill (835)
12 Feb 10
That was indeed a very good response, could be just because it was his first call of the day. I guess it would be tricky to estimate times he'd be available after that. Anyway you were lucky. I find they rarely arrive at the time they should.
@p1kef1sh (45681)
12 Feb 10
My experience is usually more to do with poor service. But I cannot complain. They have even fixed the box in the street now and the engineer came to tell me that he had done the work and explain what was wrong! I rang Virgin and they have no mechanism to take complimentary calls! "It's so nice to hear something positive" said the lady in India when I did eventually get through to customer service!

I would have to say that no....mostly here they give a 4 hour window...like we will be there between 8 and 12...or 2 and 6.... or worse yet, our refridgerator is dying...the heater mechanism is going and the service man was suppose to be here last night around 7.... well when he called at 8 to say he was running late and didnt show up until almost 9:30 then was here for nearly a half hour and he has to come back today because he didnt have the right part!!.... I realize they work all day and until all of there stops are done, but this was late and I have a son that was suppose to be in bed at this time and on a school night and to still not have my freezer working right after he left was another thing all together!! I think once in a while, we do get something in life that works out and makes us appreciate that one thing and we definitely will tell others about the good....so I am very glad to hear of your good fortune in this one!!! Happy Mylotting!!
@p1kef1sh (45681)
12 Feb 10
Isn't it strange how we take these things for granted and then when they go wrong we are thrown into a panic. We once had a freezer full of trout fail! Nice smell! LOL. What a time to come round too. I suppose that it's better than not turning up at all!

Yeah, when someone says when they show up, there is a small chance that they will be on time. Then there is a chance that they will be there within the next couple of hours, maybe. There are many reasons why people do not make appointments. They have early one's that run long that cause them to run late. I think you were lucky enough to get such an early time for them to come over and check that out. I have gotten some in the later part of the morning and there are times where the person does not show until the afternoon. After all, with something like this, it is hard to know when something will happen to make something run late.

Lucky or not I am delighted that he came on time. I am even happier that he did the job that I wanted!
