They will be televised...will you watch? Well the gossip (take it for what it is) that is that if an agreement can not be reached after the 1/2 day talks that the Democrats are going to take the bill passed in on christmas eve by the Senate and do a reconcilitation vote on it to get it passed.
Seems the dems don't have a lot of faith that a deal will be reached at the talks because Senator Tom Harkin (D Iowa) told reporters "I think a decision has just been made -- we're just going to go ahead with a reconciliation bill".
So I guess what the American public thinks is not important...they will just shove it down our throats anyway.
I DO think we need healthcare reform....but not that bill. It is going to take more than 1/2 day of argueing to fix that thing.
What do you think?

Sure I'll watch it and anything I hear until the summit actually occurs, unless it's an official statement or press announcement from the White House and/or the respectful Congressional leaders I'll consider just gossip and nothing to be taken to seriously. I like Senator Harkin but he doesn't speak for all of the Senate Democrats and he's not the Majority Leader. Actually, they don't NEED to use reconciliation to pass the bill but that would take the House agreeing to the Senate bill, possibly with the promise of changes to be made later. If they pass it then it would go to the President's desk to be signed. The problem is, the House bill, while not perfect, is better than the Senate bill, in my opinion.
I'd just like to know why all of a sudden it takes a "super-majority" to pass anything. What ever happened to "majority rules", especially when it's a pretty healthy majority? Tax cuts for the wealthy passed with 51 votes!
Whatever, I don't think it should have come to this to begin with but if they can actually discuss this and maybe come to some compromise, that will be great. However, I'm afraid the Republicans will continue to refuse to accept that "compromise" doesn't mean it's all their way. I think we all know they're hoping to regain the majority after the November elections which, I also think we all know, means no health care reform will even be discussed again as long as they run the show. After all, "breaking" the President is much more important than their constituents.

I think you are right that a compromise is unlikely...not just because they have declared open warfare on each other...but also I do think they honestly disagree on what the governments role in fixing the problem should be. Both have VERY different ideas on what the role of government should be in general. Which will make it hard to meet in the middle. But I am hoping they can work something out.
Yes the House bill is better than than the Senate bill. that is not saying much.. they both still suck in my opinion...so why I really don't want either to pass. Not without some changes to them. Passing a bad bill is NOT a good option in my opinion. I really want them to get this right. But I am loosing faith in that.
I think the most important thing they need to do is listen to the american people and talk to them. HONESTLY explain the bills...the good AND THE BAD in it and let them make up their mind if they want it. Then respect their wishes. Even if the answer is NO.

I'll watch it. I keep hearing what the American people want. I would like to know what the American people want. On AOL after a poll is taken, they give the results in percentages according to state. So I'd say, give the people a poll, give them the issuea and ask whether the people agree or not (yes or no) with each major issue of the current bill (such as financing). Then show the results by state. I stay this because the majority of folks in Ohio will feel differently from the folks in Massachusetts. The point is that the Representatives are supposed to vote according to what the "majority" of their state constituents want. And don't forget that the Senators vote according to the whole state whereas the Representatives vote according to their district constituents. Town hall meetings are great except that mostly those who are disgruntled go. The poor and many other folks who need a change in health insurance are not likely to show up. So it will be very interesting.

The House and Senate worked for the better part of a year to hammer out two bills that no one likes and that can't get full support from the majority party that drafted them. Obama has announced that the WH will post their proposal online for 72 hours ahead of the meeting and then they will all get together (12 Democrats and 9 Republicans) on February 25th to try to get everyone to agree on what they haven't agreed on all year. How likely is that to succeed?
They won't listen, they won't scrap the bills they have and start over as the voters want them to. They want to pass that Senate bill because it contains a section that says that future Congresses can't repeal that section! The whole bill stinks and they know it. It's unconstitutional, and they know it.
It's a dog and pony show. I don't have high blood pressure now, but if I do after watching this summit, you'll know why.

I probably will not be watching, I just do not see what the point is. So they talk for a couple of hours and then just shove their will down our throws. I will probably not be around a TV when this is going to happen. If the Dems use reconciliation they will wish they had not. No one stays in power for ever. The Dems use reconciliation now the Repubs will use reconciliation tomorrow.

we need to get rid of the reconcilitation process being used to shove bills through. That way no matter who is in power...they can't use it.
I will probly DVR it and then go back and watch it when I have time. I do want know who said what.

ROFLMAO did you really think this was real? This is Obama keeping a "promise" - too late but just going through the motions. And I know you aren't just now realizing that they don't care what the people want, they know whats best. This is why we need to fire the whole Congress and start over with citizens and REPRESENTATIVES of our interests and agenda.

Oh I knew the whole thing was BS and just for show. What I don't want is that bill going through on a reconciliation vote. You know it is going to happen and then what do we do. We need to put a lot of preasure on them NOT to do a reconciliation vote. Not that I think Reid or Pelosi will listen.
We sooo need clean house. I am not re-electing any of my elected officials. I don't care what party they are in. We do need a clean slate.
