Is Spike Lee one of the greatest artist directors or a self righteous critic?

I used to love Spike Lee, He was ground breaking and innovative. Do The Right Thing is still one of the best movies. I also like the Miracle at St Anna and many others. But the criticisms against Tyler Perry is terrible and goes against standards. He said Tyler Perry's movies set Black people back for many years with their depictions. He likened them to the old black face and Amos and Andy. Spike is wrong. Tyler Perry has done some great work and should be applauded. Spike needs to get off his high horse and find some balance.
