I Am So Pleased For My Mum!

Mum can be lucky with money. I don't mean winning on the Lottery or anything but money tends to come her way when she needs it most...and so it has turned out this week. There is no-one more pleased about this than me. Mum has worked on school dinners since 1974. She is one of the longest serving dinner-ladies and has been a boss for about 10 years I would say. She is 63 and would like to work as long as possible if she is able to do so. All Council workers in England (not sure if it's happening anywhere else in the UK) are subject to a re-evaluation of their salary. My brother has worked for the Council since he was 19 so has been there 23 years himself. His job is working outside. Unfortunately, his "bonus" has been scrapped so he is down on his wages but he does supplement his income by doing "foreigners" with his supervisor. Everyone does it so it's common knowledge. He has to, otherwise he could not keep his house. Mum, on the other hand, will GAIN £1800 extra on her yearly salary, back-dated from April last year! She "isn't bothered" about the back-pay but I told her not to be so silly. She has worked very hard for all these years and it's about time she got rewarded for her efforts. Don't you think so? As for my brother, well, it is hard for him but I'm sure he will share in her joy if he chooses to tell him on Sunday...and I think she should. There's no shame in earning more money, especially when she needs it. I'm so chuffed for her, I really am! I hope her good fortune rubs off onto me in my current job search.

Hello Winky, always glad to "see" you my friend. It's such a lovely comment you have made, thank you so much. Like I've said earlier, I do try my best to be more like Mum as being a good person reaps its own rewards. You would like her...in fact she's coming to stay with me next weekend so I shall introduce her to you.

I will try my best! I would love it if everyone on MyLot was "lucky" as it's such a wonderful community isn't it? We all try so hard to be better at what we do and, to be honest, this site has actually given me my confidence back as it is so supportive...plus I get to type a lot, something I really like to do.

Chuffed is good, right? Just kidding, I knew that one... I suppose it would have been better if she'd gotten the pay all along, but what the heck, it's like a nice bonus. Hard on your brother though (stupid economy)...

This is why Mum is feeling a tad guilty about it...and she shouldn't. My brother will understand totally about her money and will support her all the way, I'm sure of it. Danny (brother) used to have a very bad drink problem so he does have more money these days. I'm sure he will be OK in future as he has people "looking out for him" which is great. It is good to have friends that keep him on the straight and narrow, so to speak.

Hello Janey, So glad to got your mothers good news in her job. I believe there are many reasons behind the some money someone get. It is worth notice that good behavior and serious attitude your mother's did must touch her boss and colleagues, there is no doubt that your mother deserve this money.(of course, she had a considerate boss) As the same time, she always getting the "gift" from formless power.
