Do you actually write checks anymore?

I can't remember when I actually wrote my last check! It seems they are becoming obsolete! I wonder if we will eventually change the name of the accounts. You know, since they are not really "checking" accounts anymore! DO you still write checks?

I haven't written a check in ages. Heck, I can't even remember when was the last time that I did, it's been so long ago. Funny thing though...I still HAVE my checks that the bank mailed me. No...guess I'm just one of those old fogies, who simply prefers cash over any other form of paper. cdrxo

Yep! I still have checks the bank mailed to me too! They are free nowadays. Maybe that's because they are not used much any more!

To be honest I write one check every month and that is for my mortgage payment. I might change that now and have the bank take care of it. I don't really know why I haven't done that. I pay all my other bills online thru my bank. I know if I go to the website they will charge me to pay that way. However, thru my bank it will be good. It will save me a stamp every month.

That's cool. I am really surprised at how much checks are still in use! I have gone mostly cash or online banking! That's my safer choices!

It's been about 7 years since I wrote a check. I do all my bill paying online and use my debit card for shopping. I think that not only are checks going by the wayside, but so is the paper money as well. I don't think that they will change the word "checking" to something else. The banks still has to actually write out a check for a merchant that isn't on the E-Merchant program. For ex., my rent check. My utilities are E-Merchant participants. The money is actually transferred from one account to another.

Yeah, I pay most of my bills on line too. I can't think of when I have actually sent in a virtual check. I guess they call them e-checks now!

I've never written any checks and I think they are quite obsolete now. It's because online banking is spreading allover the world. In our country it has been a decade since the online banking was adapted. I find it very secure and comfortable solution for getting your taxes and stuff done. I don't have to visit bank office, because I can get almost all things done via Internet.

Hey there! If checks go obsolete, I'll be growing my own food and doing everything myself. I don't use cash for safety reasons and I don't believe in credit or debit cards. I've only used checks since I was eighteen years old. I actually really prefer checks. You can see the amount you're spending (so it really dawns on you whether your purchase was necessary or not), plus, you record it so you never buy more than you have, which is a HUGE problem with many people in America. The only people I've ever known who have never had debt are my parents and myself. Credit cards seem to be a big thing...unfortunately, convenience has its consequences. I use online bill pay for my monthly real estate business payments. Back when I was in my late teens and had started the business, they didn't have online banking available. So every month I had to sit down and write a few checks...bank payments, taxes, utilities, condo fees, etc. I do use bill pay for these things, but I check my account online daily near the change of the month to make sure a mistake isn't made. I don't trust any other people or organizations to always do everything right...and I've caught quite a few mistakes because of this close eye. Writing checks is something I expect to be kept available. One of my checking accounts comes with a debit card, but I immediately cut it up as soon as I get it. I don't trust cards nor do I trust the poor judgment people have when they own one. Checks are the smartest and safest choice for me.

While I agree with some of your sentiments, I think probably people felt the same way about checks when they first came out!I actually prefer cash. You NEVER overspend when you go cash. You literally can't!

I may write 1 or 2 checks each month. Most of my bills are on auto-pay and checks are direct deposited. The money goes in and the money goes out -- automatically! LOL Bank debit cards have eliminated the 'writing a check' hassle. One easy swipe at the store accomplishes the same thing and greatly simplifies that antique process. Of course, online banking has virtually made the necessity of writing a check obsolete.

That's what I was thinking. I do most of my bill paying on line. I don't have to mess with stamps or checks! I get most of my bills emailed to me too. And most of my money is auto deposited into my account!
