Should the minimum wage be increased, and why did the Republicans refuse the increase? I mean they get paid over $150,000 for part-time work.

Increasing minimum wage would only cause increases in other areas - inflation works across the board. Minimum wage goes up, prices of items go up, and then the value of the dollar goes down, and it would have been better to leave minimum wage alone.

It seems to me that prices of items are still going up.

I agree. The cost of living has gone up so much. How are the people making minimum wage, with no increase, suppose to live? Things have gone up for years and years but minimum wage has been at the same amount for years and years.

The problem with raising the minimum wage is this - it increases costs to businesses and, to recoop that cost, they have to raise their prices. So, people would be making more money but they would also be spending more money too because of inflation.

Part of me says minimum wage should be increased, but another part of me says it's really futile. Every time minimum wage is raised, the cost of other goods and services rise also. It's a vicious circle to say the least. As far as the politicians getting all that money for part-time work...I think that's really taking advantage of the tax-payers of this great country. It drives me crazy that they can vote, and get, their own raises! (Wouldn't it be unique and nice if we ALL could do that, lol?!) I think any raises for ANY public official should be put on the ballot so that the public who elected them could vote on whether they deserve it or not. It might make for some better politicians, right? The way it's set up now is like letting the fox be in charge of the hen house, so to speak. Come on, who else in this world gets to mandate their own raises? Even the president of a corporation has somebody to answer to in regards to raises, whether it be their stockholders, or their board. I don't see why this is even allowed in America...it just is not right imho! I don't think the Republicans voted for the minimum to be increased because they seem to be more about wealth...their own, and the upper classes!

They passed the bill in my state. Minimum wage will now be $6.15 per hour here, with increases as inflation rises
