When I sleep in an unknown place (friend's or relative's house) and use their pillow which I am not accustomed to, I get a painful stiff neck the following day and lasts for days. They say that I should use a bottle of warm water and roll it against my neck. Sometimes it works but sometimes it doesn't. Any other relief techniques that you know of?

massage....by the thumbs along the neckbone, well, not direct on the bone but beside. let the neck bone stays at the middle between left and right thumbs. press both thumb and stay like that, count 1-10 then release and move up to the head then go down from the head to the shoulder. Then start over again but this time make the thumbs move circularly at the pressed spot. The best way. Even cure stress!

Oh! also hard massage at the shoulder. Actually, there are nerves on the shoulder that connect with the neck so if you have a massge well at the shoulder, though nobody touch your neck you will feel relieve or even cure the stiff. Should is very focus spot no.1 for the stiff neck the the no.2 is neck

place a hot water bag on the affected area once every hour until the stiffness lessens or disappears. Apply a relief ointment, get prescription from a doctor if necessary. Use the ointment to warm the stiffed neck, it will help to have a better movement. Request a massage from your partner or a therapist.

If it's somewhere you go regularly or that you know you'll be staying in advance, perhaps you should bring your own pillow? If that's not possible, have you heard of Tiger Balm? It's a good cure-all for achy muscles.

Hi atv As the above mylotter said, Tiger Balm is the best one. We also use IODEX SPRAIN SPRAY, or MOOV ointment for the sprain which also is effective.
