1 Samuel 15:3 Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and donkey. In the scripture God commands King Saul through the prophet Samuel to commit what in today's time would be called genocide. Think about it if a country invaded another country for the sole purpose to annihilate their entire population what would we call it? I will even grant you that all the men and women were the most evil people on the face of the planet, I doubt it but I do not want to argue over this. My problem is killing the infants and the suckling. I cannot see any reason why 2 year old and younger should be killed, but also ordered to be killed by a God that is suppose to be loving. Could not the Israelites have saved the 2 year old and younger and raised them as their own? Also what great evil could an infant and suckling have committed that warranted their death?

If you read the Bible, you realize that the Amalekites attacked the Hebrews and did not attack the front end where the men were, but attacked where the women and children were. In other words, they attacked the weak. So they were a nation of cowards and were used by Satan to try to wipe out the ancestor of the Christ. Think about it. They attacked the Hebrews before they entered the Promised Land. The ancestor of the Christ was with the Hebrews in the wilderness and Rahab the ancestress of the Christ was in Jericho that they had not reached yet. Therefore for hoping for the saving of the infants and children of the Amalekites, you were hoping that Christ would not come and save us from our sins.
Also you have no idea how the Amalekites raised their children. We as good parents make sure that our children share and are considerate of the weak, but any child that showed those traits would have been killed before they had a chance to reproduce.
There is something about nature and nurture. I read a discussion about a couple who adopted a baby whose father was a criminal and that boy showed the same traits. and the parents were besides themselves because they raised the boy to be loving and caring as they had been raised.
Therefore already the Amalekites were already showing signs of their evil nature even in infancy. So God, in HIS righteous judgment ordered the annihilation of the whole nation.

The Amalekites that attacked the Hebrews coming up from Egypt were not the same generation as the Amalekites that got annihilated. That would be like saying Canada would have the moral right to burn Detroit now because back in 1814 the USA burnt Toronto. Or even another example modern day Israel launches a nuclear attack against Germany because of what happen to European Jews back in the 40's.
You are right I have no clue how the Amalekites raised their children but I know one thing babies no matter how evil their parents do not deserve to be killed because their parents were evil. Going back to my whole Nazi example, Nazi's had children should the Allies have rounded up all the children of Nazi's even infants and killed them to stop the spread of Nazism?

Any reasonable person would have a problem with this. That is why Israel often disobeyed. But, in this world, and at at my age; seeing what I have seen of the evil in men's hearts and how awful the deeds of some are...I am beginning to understand and have faith that God does know best and we humans have only succeeded in making a mess of our time here on earth. We try and try to solve the problem of SIN and only make it worse with our limited understanding of how evil works.
This is not to say that humans should try and second guess GOD and use His word as an excuse to kill. But I do think that this was a different age than what we are in living in.

One thing to contemplate, we are not given the FULL story here...these people killed their own children as sacrifice to their gods, they left them out to die if they were in any way disabled...it wasn't JUST the Israelites doing the killing.

The idea was to prevent future attacks from those same 2 year olds.
Actually, this is very similar to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, which resulted in turning Lots wife into a pillar of salt merely for looking back at the destruction.
The destruction of the Amalikites was ordered by God because they had became too evil after many years of opportunities to change.
The reason the Israelites could not save the young was because they were forbidden to... they were ordered to destroy everyone.
Even then they did not do it immediately.

You do realize that you are standing in judgment of God.
Don't you consider that to be a bit presumptuous on your part?
God will get you for that you know...
