Do you feel that we are heading in the direction of a global change?

In the last few years we have had some really wierd weather in the midwest. Iowa had a record flood that has never been seen in the state's history, horible devastation by tornadoes and heavy snowfalls. IL near Chicago had a resent earthquake! Jobs are getting harder and harder to come by and you cant help but wonder what is coming next? In ancient times, 26000 years ago, they say that Iowa was part of an inland shallow sea. Well, the 2008 flood looked like mother nature wanted her shallow sea back. Iowa is still reeling from the last flood. If a global change does occur do you think it will happen in our life time. Seasons are not staying the right amount of time for crops, gardens or flowers. The honey bee so vital for pollination has all but disappeared. The dog days of summer in the midwest have not been the normal long hot three months, etc. Are are weather patterns a forewarning of what is to come?

The scientist have said that around 26,000 years ago the climate was completely different due to natural changes that the earth goes through. Alaska at one time was a lush nearly tropical land and the deserts were once vast oceans. Iowa the state I live in was once completely under water as an inland sea. I have noticed that winters in Iowa have been irratic, very odd snow patterns, the worst flooding in recorded Iowa history, tornadoes that have wiped towns off the map, crops that rot in the field because they dont ripen in time or dry in the field for harest, animals that have not been seen in Iowa for a century suddenly showing up in our state like elk, moose, bob cat and cougars and now even wolves and coyotes. Gardening conditions for plants has changed to such as tomatoes not ripening before the season is nearly over. Just to many things changing to list.

I think that the earth may be going through normal changes that it goes through every x amount of years. It could be every 10,000 or every million, or some other arbitrary number. We don't have recorded history far enough back to know all the changes and phases that the earth goes through. I don't think it's a sign of anything and I don't think all the changes we make in emissions or green products will change it. I think it's just a natural phase.

I believe the earth is going through normal global changes as the geology studies have shown of the past cycles of the earth. According to the studies the last major climate change was 26,000 years ago. I just wonder will it be grandual, mor drastic, an ice age or a warm up. It does make you wonder how it will effect man, our way of life?

Some believe weather changes come in 7s. I'm not sure if that is true or not. It's been so rainy the last three years here, we almost qualify as a rain forest. (I"m Northeast).

No, the weather patterns the U.S. is experiencing right now are due to El Niño, which is a predictable weather pattern that comes along every couple of years. El Niño was also responsible for the track of the hurricanes that didn't hit the east coast last summer. It's nothing to be concerned about in my opinion.

It depends on which viewpoint we are looking at. For example in certain religions it is a sign of even something worse in the future before things become better than what they are now. Global warming would be the point used by certain people. Since not many people rally care about it, and the damage is too great for nature to heal itself in a relatively short time, the disruption will become even worse. The optimist would probably not worry about something regarded as a natural cycle which the earth goes through. This optimism has history to back up the claim.
