We have just been with our family doctor. I say, family doctor because, besides she being a family medical practitioner, she is the one whom our family see, everytime we got sick or has something that we want to know about our health, before seeing other doctors. Almost everything about our health, colds, fever, internal discomfort, eyes, etc., we first seek her medical attention before she will recommend a specialist or endorse us to other doctors, for further check-up. Almost everyone in the family, from me and my wife, our kids, her mom, her dad, her sisters, their kids, my nephews and nieces.
To recall, our two year old son, Zyruz, having treated as of the moment for possible sleep apnea, is so far doing well, responding so well with the medicines. Though a little expensive, we have to face the high priced medicines and keep the taking of them in schedule, for at least four months or until six months.
Yesterday, though I am a little afraid of the would be outcome of the treatment, this family doctor told us more about tonsils. She said that we really don't have to be afraid if, worse come to worst, his tonsils should be removed. There are a lot of our body parts that if removed, we still can move well and almost nothing happened. She mentioned appendix as an example. This should be removed, because it has no more function and it not removed, will only lead to more complicated situation. And so with tonsils. If the need to remove it will not be done, more complicated situation would come to us, like heart problem, and that is not irreversible, she said.
Frankly, I am afraid of operation.
I even fell down when I accompany my oldest son when I saw blood when he was circumcised. Though that happened about 10 years ago, funny, but that's true. I thought am was going down and blood goes up to my head.
So to make this a lively and memorable discussion, please tell me, do we really have to be afraid, if worse come to worst, we need operation, to remove his tonsils? By this time, our worries is for him get the operation, at his age. But the doctor said, it is not going to happen very soon. Maybe a year or two more.
And I would also want to hear from you, is there any part or parts of your body that had been removed, for some reasons? Did it made you feel better, move better, or just a plain nothing, as nothing had happened or nothing is missing?

Hi Neil, i think u have to put your fears aside & be strong for your family. I think if he needs his tonsils out that is what needs to be done. Whatever is best for the child is what should be done.

i know it would come, if that will come. but as of this moment, i am not prepared. i don't know why, it's just that i feel he's too young for it. i mean, to remove the tonsils is fine with me, but the operation process itself, i guess, is the one that i feared for.

I had my wisdom teeth removed. Other than that, no body parts...
But it's normal to be worried about an operation. But thank goodness it's just tonsils and not something major. I'm sure he will be just fine!

You're a parent. It's impossible not to worry at least a little bit... but just try to remember it's a routine thing that they've been doing since way before we were born.

good to hear that dawn. at least, it's just a tooth.
do you really think we should not worry about the operation? well, anyway, if the doctors tell us so, we can not complain or disagree, it would be for the better health of our son. thanks a lot, dawn.

Well it is hard not to be afraid when undergoing surgery actually but if that is needed to save life then all we could ever do is pray and ask for God's wonderful mercy.
I am happy I have not had any part of me taken out. The only major operation I went through is cesarean operation when I gave birth to my son several years. I think all the parts of our body have functions to perform so if any of them is taken out, the body will have to adjust otherwise in order to keep working normally. Well I heard appendix does not have any significant function to our body, nevertheless I believe it has functions that has not been discovered, otherwise, there would be no reason for the Lord to put appendix inside us. God makes no mistake and I believe that.
Now for a tonsil to be removed then the doctor must have good reasons and doctors know what is best. Just pray that that things get better so that there would be no need for your son to undergo that tonsil surgery.

Hi Neilc,
Tonselitice is just very uncomfortable when you get it, it is just a bad sore throat, I have had and it has been removed in my adult life, since then I dnon't get a bad sore throat when I get a common cold, and I don't think its neccesary to get the operation when nothing is wrong with them Tonsel or his apendix, but its up to you, you souldn't make your son suffer uneccesarely.Hugs.

as the title of this topic says, "be prepared". so whatever will the doctor say, all we have to do is agree. we can't say no if it will be for the betterment of our baby's health. thanks for always here for me, tamara.

hi neildc, i am just sad reading your discussion. i felt with your emotion as a father and i have a big heart for kids. i know how difficult it can be, but i'm just thinking, wouldn't a second opinion necessary? i know you trust your family doctor and seeking a second opinion does not mean you do not trust you doctor, but really, seeking second (or even third) opinion stories around helped save lives for the many! i do not know, but you may try to consider it? what do you think of my suggestion?

the last doctor whom a pediatrician-neurologist is actually the one that takes the treatment process, slowly, stage by stage. the pediatrician whom we consulted a year ago, was the one who recommended the sleep test. we had no money for the sleep test at that time. and when it came last december, we see the pedia-neuro first, to get a second opinion. the family doctor, our family doctor actually recommended any one of those two pedias. there are actually 3 of them who are looking at him.

Hello neildc,
So, how is your boy doing? It's normal to be afraid for your son most specially for this kind of operation. but you can't show that fear to your family since you need to be strong for them.

I had my Total Abdominal Histerectomy when i was 38 year old. They removed my uterus and my two ovaries.
I had polyps in my ovaries which the doctor said can grow back and might become malignant. Then for my uterus , it was found out to have indemetriosis. (i hope i spelled it right).
I had to take Hormone Replacement Therapy after that, because i would be already experiencing what a menopausal woman experiences, at that early age of mine. So, i didn't feel any side effect.
However, after 4 years i withdrew from HRT because my husband said that he read in the medical book that i could get cancer or heart ailment by taking them.
Thus, as soon as i withdrew from HRT , wrinkles formed in the eye area. But i don't mind, because i want to reap the health benefit of being out of HRT.
Because of the Histerectomy, i wasn't able to have a child again. But it's okay with us, because we already have a daughter already.
