I consider myself a kind of computer geek. I have been using one for years. I keep the hard drive cleaned of things I don't really use. If I think I might use something at a later date I put that file on cd or 3 1/2 floopy. It is wise to do a system restore point. You should defrag and do a disk clean up every time you install or uninstall a program. If your going to install a program it is wise to set a system restore point before hand. That way if your system don't like the program you installed you can go back to that point and reset your computer. When I uninstall a program I always do a disk defrag and a disk clean up. This will help your machine to run a little faster. So do you clean up your computer? Do you defrag your system and do a disk clean up?

I clean my PC when I feel, it needs cleaning. Since my PC is what earns me my mone I have to keep it runing, but I don't do things so often as you. For me it takes too much time, to do all those things and some of them are not neccessary to do so often anyway.

It wont take so long time to clean and my computer runs just fine. I don't see the point of doing it so often. I have my PC set up like that, it wont generate junk so much and i keep it maintained.

It is good that you have your computer set up to clean its self.

Hi Nosferatu. If you would do it a little more then your computer wouldn't take so long to clean itself out. I like my computer to run faster. That is why I keep my computer cleaned out of junk I really haven't used in awhile.

Hi Sknsknskn and welcome to my lot. I use a vacuum on the back side of the computer. But use an air compressor to clean out the inside of the tower. I clean out the other stuff with defrag and system clean up.

A while back, I bought this really cool gooey stuff from the Gadget Shop online. It's this flourescent yellowish slime that sinks into gaps and grooves and attracts any dust and dirt within them. Once finished just pull the slime out, give it a wash and re-use it It is brilliant because it fits into any possible gap and leaves behind no mess or grease

Hi MrKennedy. Never heard of that stuff. Don't clean out the inside like that. We have an air compressor and I use it to clean out the inside. Is that stuff good to use on the inside of your computer?

Hi Hwke and welcome to my lot. Not a good thing that extra data that you no longer use or need will slow your machine down. Why don't you put it on a cd that way you don't lose it?

Hi Kauckles_adj and welcome to my lot. Been using ccleaner for years and it it a good free tool to use. But I have lots of files on my computer and do clean it out. Runs better if you do use defrag.

Seems I just opposite of you, I just left date in my hard drive until the hard drive kind full, I must clean it for new datas. Because, I have that experience that after one year later I need to check my old staff on hard drive, and it still there, and really help me a lot. For me, there are some many files on my computer that I haven't open for years, but I just left them there, If I need more space to save new datas, I will clean it!

Hi Shan. Not a good thing to leave data piling up like that. It would be best if you think your going to use it at a later date to put it on a removable thing. Like a USB flash drive or a cd or a floppy. Back up your computer if your going to delete things so if it is something you need you can always go to that system restore point. I like working on computers and finding out how to do different things. That way I enhance my brain power.
