Reminiscence of Slave Trade

The improper appropriation of Haitian children by US missionaries is reminiscence of Slave Trade years ago. Did you know that some Africans came to the New Worlds during the Slave Trade because their silly parents, in good faith, gave them to foreign visitors and “missionaries” thinking their children were getting an opportunity to a better life? It is not uncommon, even to this day, in Africa to see parents give their children to relatives and/or friends in other nations/cities/town/villages for apprenticeship or with hope their children would be better disciplined. While these arrangements sometimes work out for the good of some children, a good number of them often result in child neglect or child abuse. Parents, if you cannot raise your children, then please do not have them. And if you have children, then do everything decently possible to care for them. There is no place like home! Learn to use all that is readily available to you in your own homeland to improve your situation. Meanwhile, there are available birth control aids and medical procedures to prevent pregnancy. And if you, woman, are single, then please keep your legs crossed until a responsible man puts a ring on your finger.

I wouldn't describe the parents who believed the lies of the slave traders back then as silly, netsbridge. These were simple people, living in more or less isolated areas who wrongly believed that everyone was as honest as they were. Please keep in mind, too, that there are many areas in this world where people are extremely poor through no fault of there own, where opportunities do not exist and where birth control aides and medical procedures are not readily available.

A parent must be silly and a little unbalance in the head to even give away a child to strangers.

Nets, you should do some reading about these tribes before you pass judgement. These people lead simple lives and were very naive when it came to the ways of the outside world but, more than that, they were very poor and wanted a better life for their children. They weren't unbalanced or silly...they were trusting. There are people in this world who still take advantage of because they trust.

Spalladino, with all sad facts about child trafficking, child abuse, etc., I believe that a parent must be a little insane to actually think there is nothing he/she can do in his/her homeland to improve situation that he/she must give away a child to strangers. I do not know of any foreigner that has ever had easy success in a foreign nation: And if these same successful foreigners had worked as hard in their own homelands as they often do abroad, I bet that they would likewise have success and have success with less stress. I know and believe that anyone in any nation, regardless, can thrive from that which is readily available to him/her!
