why don't we sing more?

I think singing is one of the most natural expressions of emotions that we have. If we are feeling joyful, it is natural to sing out loud about that joy. When we are sad, the blues are also a natural expression of that melancholy that we feel. However, the U.S. is not a singing nation. As a whole, we don't grow up singing and so it feel foreign to us. Go to Italy or Germany or England. Singing is more a part of the culture there. So how did we lose out?
