Are you a sest belt user? Do you think that it will keep you from worse injury if you have your seat belt on, should you have an accident? Do you require others who ride with you to wear their seat belts? Share your thoughts.

Seatbelts are an important part of the security when driving in a car or for that sake flying in an airplane. You never know what happens and if you crash in frontally with an object the seatbelt will most likely prevent you from flying out of the front window.

...Hi Downwindz, You are totally correct, if you have an accident and your body is thrust forward, the only way you don't go through the windshield would be if you are restrained by your seat belt. That would be a horrible situation, and I am sure that has happened in a lot of unfortunate accidents, where the seat belt was not being worn. Thanks for your input and take good care.

...Hi there again Downwindz, I thank you so much for your good wishes. I am in the house most days, so I don't have to drive as much as I used to. I can remember, it would seem like every winter, I would be driving on an icy highway, and come to a stop light, hit the brakes too fast and my car would do a complete turn around right there. Luckily no other car would be near me and I wouldn't have a crash. So I am happy that I am inside now most of the time. Take very good care.

Here it is the law that we buckle up. And the law must be obeyed. I do think that they offer a measure of protection. Thankfully so far I haven't had any accidents to test their effectiveness. In my car I ask everyone to put their seat belts on or else I'm not moving. It is just the way it is. Put on the seat belt or walk. They have a choice!

Hi artistry! That's a pretty good idea. Thanks! Might do something with it later. I do eventually want to have my own website so that I can earn enough income so that I don't have to go back to work. Let's see how the online businesses I'm involved with pan out. May I make a suggestion for you? Have you thought about having an avatar on mylot? Something that kind of represents you? Ciao!

...Hi 1hopefulman, I just thought of an idea having to do with your name. You should patent it, then either write a little book with your favorite sayings or create magnets or bumper stickers with your favorite inspirational sayings, from 1hopefulman. They would be a big seller I do believe. "o) It is the same thing here, you are ticketed, if you are stopped and don't have your seat belt buckled. If you would have an accident and a passenger was hurt and not wearing their belt, part of the responsibiity would be on you, So smart to make everybody buckle-up. Take care. Thanks for your reply.

Seat belts are essential and it is against the law to drive without them here. I always use my seat belt and insist that my passengers do so as well. I have had to slam on the brakes a couple of times in my driving history and each time the seat belt has saved me from flying through the windscreen

I live outside of a small town in an area where there is little traffic. The towns near us are also small so my chances of being involved in an accident aren't as great here as they would be if I lived in a more highly populated area. I also drive a big truck so, for those two reasons, I don't normally wear my seatbelt. I do, however, take precautions to keep my grandchildren safe when they ride with me, putting the younger ones in car seats and making the older one buckle up.

...Hi spalladino, That's a good thing that you do for your grands. It is understandable that where you live, you would not be too concerned with wearing your seat belt while driving. I visited my mom and dad once when they were living in Georgia. I had rented a car to drive around, I went from their home to my cousin's home in a nearby town. I kid you not, I don't think I saw one car for some ten miles or so. If I lived down there, though it may be more populated now, I would not worry about a seat belt either. Thanks for your response, take care.

We have to wear them here in the UK. When I was about 12, our teacher had a bad car accident from not wearing his. On television there was a campaign to encourage seat belt wearing back then but it wasn't law in those days. I have ridden in the back of a minivan without a belt and it is like rattling around in a tin can because any sudden acceleration or stopping and you are flung about. My kids have never been in the car without belts and nowadays children up to a certain age must have a seat that fits onto the car seat so that their seat belt fits in the right place over their shoulder and not cutting across their face.

...Hi pandaeyes, Not everyone realizes how important seat belts are to our safety. Children especially can be hurt so badly or killed, from not having a seat belt on, if there is an accident. The impact of a car's forward motion if hit, is enough to throw your body through the wind shield, without a selt belt to restrain you. Thanks for your input, take good care.

..Hi mak9839, Nice to see you at the ranch, enjoy. You have experienced it first hand. Glad that it was not any worse than it was. I have been in a few accidents, but mostly fender benders, not to much damage to the car. But I did get a whip lash, in one accident, which was very painful for a long time. I think that I was wearing my seat belt though. Thanks so much for your reply. Take good care.

I do wear mine. It's also law here to wear it and they can pull you over now and ticket you as well as passengers for not wearing seat belts. Though my hubby doesn't wear one as much as I'd like him to do. Th ekids always yell at him if they hear the van remind him that his belt is not fastened.

...Hi 3SnuggleBunnies, That is the law here as well, it may be thought to be an inconvienence by a lot of people, but in the long run, it is truly better to wear the belt than not. I can remember driving, not wearing my seat belt, and I would see a police car in my mirror, real fast I would pull my seat belt around me, so that I would not get stopped for violating the law. I try to be more diligent these days. Thanks for your response, take care.

Yes i do think that every one should wear a seat belt as it has proven that it saves a lot of lives as well as there are alot more cars on the road now compared to say twenty years ago aswell as there are alot more accidents aswell.I ensure that all people who get in my car wear seat belts no matter what as i am not the only person driving on the road.

...Hi jugsjugs, You make a grear point, there are so many more cars on the road and you have to drive for yoursellf and for others as well, trying to anticipate what they are going to do. Better to be wearing your seat belt and not need it than the reverse. Many people's lives have been saved, as you say, because their seat belt, kept them from a major castastrophe. Thanks for your response. Take care.
