Do You Have A Coloured Or A White Bathroom?

Coloured bathrooms were all the rage many years ago. In the 1980s Mum had a peach coloured bathroom, then a grey "shell-design" bathroom. Nowadays she has a white bathroom. My cousin has a white bathroom with a spa bath. It's awesome! Me? Well, our bathroom is dark blue!! John inherited it when he bought the house in 1999 so I have no idea how old it really is. I would say at least 15 years old, maybe older. The reason I think this is that it is very hard to clean and KEEP clean, especially the sink as it tends to hold soap scum instead of it whizzing satisfactorily down the plug-hole. It really is an uphill battle against the soap-scum. Luckily, the toilet and bath aren't too bad although the toilet does hold a lot of water in its cistern at the top. I must admit, I do like the bath (with electric shower over) as it is massive. I can lie in it quite easily. I can't do that at Mum's but there again she is limited by space. I would have to buy another bath the same size, otherwise a smaller one would look silly in the large bathroom. So my friends, what colour is your bathroom and, more importantly, do you like it...or would you like to change it given half a chance?

My bathroom is all white, but I would love to have it painted. I live in an apartment, so I can't paint anything, but a nice lavender or light blue would be wonderful. I wish I had a tub like yours too! I love taking baths, but our tub is little, and uncomfortable. I used to live in a place that had a HUGE round tub, and I loved it, but it also had a tiny hot water tank, so you could never really fill it up. I used to heat water on the stove and add it to my bathwater so I could have a full tub of hot water :) Some day, when I have my own house, I'll have a lavender and black bathroom, with a big, deep tub, a huge hot water tank to fill it up with, and candles everywhere! I may never leave the bathroom then!

Lavender and black, what a fabulous and unusual combination, I love it! You should be an interior designer, they never come up with anything exciting like that, do they? We are lucky in that we do have two tanks (don't ask me why but we do) and if I do choose to have a bath it's really good, especially with bubbles as I don't have to use as much water then. You should try it! I'm out of bubbles at the mo so I must buy some over weekend.

See you are like me cant do a thing to change it. I love the idea black and lavender. Soon as I move I might have to barrow that idea.. hope you don't mind. I hate our tub tiny and uncomfortable too! I agree it would be my retreat and I would never come out!!!

well, i have moved to an other house 3 times, and all of these have had "beige" or "sunbean" colour, like they were made around the 90 decade.. but when we bought this one, the bathroom was new, so we change the colour!!! all the bathroom is a modern design and the wall and the floor are sky blue with white! is amazing! but the other bathroom is older! was made around the 90ies! and was the other color like the others! lol! for meis the same, while the bathroom bring me the uses i need to have there, is okay! but of course, i like it more if is a modern design! ha ha ,, have a nice day!!!

So - see if I'm reading this correctly, do you have two bathrooms? And one is more modern than the other? That would drive me nuts lol. However, you ARE lucky to have two bathrooms, if that's the case. En-suite bathrooms are becoming increasingly more popular here in the UK...but there's only two of us so it's not really necessary. No room for one anyhow...at least I don't think so! You got me thinking now!

Hi Janey, We have a white bathroom. i want it to be white. since i was a kid, we maintained a white bathroom. you need to maintain the cleanliness of the bathroom or else aside from it will stink --the color will really be awful and eye sore. white bathroom also gives me a peaceful feeling while inside and it brightens BR.

First I am gonna guess you are from the UK because of how you spelled color. Second I have a white bathroom I wish it was black or Dark blue for the walls. Then the other stuff stainless steel or white porcelain. Although if we do stainless steel I want some kind of padded seat because that toilet will be cold. I don't know though I think a sea theme done well could be cute too. I also like some of these bathrooms with huge footed tubs with dark colors. I just don't know what I would like. The most relaxing comfortable tub out is what I want. lol

What a wonderful imagination you have, I'm impressed and yes, I am from the UK, well spotted lol. Stainless steel eh? At Real Madrid's football stadium there were loads of stainless steel toilets...immaculate they were, only to find that NONE of them had any toilet roll in them because the Spaniards just don't drink before the games like we do. Shock, horror!

We used to have the most disgusting shade of green, laughingly called *Avocado* the entire suite. The bathroom walls had been painted green to match and the previous owner had also put down a green carpet and hung a green curtain. It was the first thing we changed in the house and once we had ripped out the entire suite and all the decor, we had a plain and simple white suite and painted the walls pale lilac.

Our bathroom is a green. Kinda like an olive shade I suppose. It was like that when we moved in when I was 3 and Im 28 now lol. Im not keen on it. I dont really like white bathrooms either because I think they look a bit "clinical" and like bathrooms in hopsitals etc.

Well, I suppose if you have had to put up with that colour for so long, there's no real reason to change it, especially when you don't like white either. Cheaper that way too!

Hi, Janey1966. Our bathroom is beige colored. We have no designs on our walls at all. It is just a plain color. I don't like how close the toilet is to the tub. When I have to wash my hair, I have to scoot real close all the way into the tub. That way the water can spread all the way on my hair. I don't know why they make toilets so close together. It is so aggravating! I also don't like the way that our tub looks on the outside with the sealant and all. It looks worn out. I love the fact that we have at least five shelves so that I can sit our items on it. I don't like our tub so close to our toilet. These are the flaws that I disapprove of.

Hello there, thanks for keeping this discussion alive, it's much appreciated! My Mum's bathroom is small but she has had it modernised fairly recently (in white with bits of blue on the tiled walls) but she doesn't have the same problem as we do with sealants. I'm unsure of the type of sealant the father-in-law used when he put the tiles on but I bet it was the cheap stuff! As for the size of our bathroom, we are lucky in that respect as it is big due to the fact we only have two bedrooms, therefore the bathroom hasn't been adapted in order to fit in another bedroom, if that makes sense!

All three of the bathrooms in our new house are yellow, I HATE yellow. The main bathroom also has brownish, beigey floral tiles around the bath tub and covering one entire wall. The vanity is an icky looking marbled thing with veins of pink in it and I think the sink is a pale green (funny, I can't even remember what it looks like right now!). In the ensuite the sink and toilet were both faux marble, which I'm sure was considered quite striking in 1971 when the house was built. Needless to say, we're planning extensive renovations!

That's a good question. We had our bathroom refurbished last summer. The previous one was in terrible condition, so the new one looks now like a gift of heaven, comparing to old one. We have our bathroom in two colors: the lower half is chocolate brown and the higher part is creamy beige. This looks actually quite good, because the tiles have a texture of bamboo, so it looks kind of tropical. I am quite content with the new bathroom, it looks pretty and it's way better than it was before refurbishing.

hello Janey, Our bathroom is all white with blue edging right on the ceiling to give some emphasis with the cream ceiling too. I choose the color myself ...and like it white. For me it looks clean with it's white color and also easier to clean since dirt were visible and easy to wipe of with cleaning materials too.

Hello Janey, We bought our house 13 yrs ago. It has 4 bathrooms and the upstairs have grey toilet, whirlpool bath, shower and sinks. The walls are light pink. I think grey is the best color as it never seems dirty (dont worry I clean it all the time haha). The downstairs bathrooms are all white, walls and toilets, sinks, showers and baths. In one of the downstairs bathroom are my washers and dryers and they're also white. Upstairs, the floors are marble like ceramic tiles and downstairs its white ceramic tiles. I can sympathize with you having a dark blue sink and toilet.......I used to have black ones in a previous house. Oh My God, you spend all your time cleaning and they always look dirty. Im sort of fed up with the grey but it would cost an arm and a leg to change it all so since they dont look old, they were well taken care of.....I guess I have no choice but keep it as is!!

It's funny you mention the grey bathroom as Mum used to have one that colour and it seemed to be spotless all the time. As for my blue one; you are right, the darker colours are a nightmare to clean, although I do keep on top of it so it never looks REALLY bad! Your grey bathroom sounds lovely. Can we swap? Haha!

We could, since you dont run out of hot water either. I couldnt live without hot water. I go through a tank so fast so Im lucky I have 2 big ones. Strange that you started a discussion about bathrooms, you had me looking at flyers last night and Id like to have everything in white upstairs also. Maybe when hubby retires......I'll start talking about it now....in a very sneaky way like only us women can do haha!!

We have just moved house and there is a coloured bathroom already fitted. However, we are not looking to update it to a white one and have a separate shower fitted as it is about 20 years old. Strangely enough, white bathrooms are much easier to keep clean! _Derek

You are correct in saying that white bathrooms are easier to clean than coloured ones. I have an uphill struggle with mine but it is so old that maybe they lose some of their shine over time?

Yes, I can understand where you are coming from with this. Since we had the kitchen modernised I want to have the bathroom done, but we can't through lack of cash. One day we will though and I already have an idea in my head what it will be like...and I am sure you do too.

Because I live in rented accomodation, it's up to the landlord what colors the different rooms are decorated in. The bathroom has been given this terrible off-color baby blue tint throughout, but like I said, because it is really off-color, it looks disgusting If I had my choice, I would keep the bathroom white because I feel white looks clean, and that's the whole purpose of a bathroom, somewhere to make yourself clean

Our bathroom is white but I really dont like it that way because its too boring so I usually place a shower curtain and curtains for the windows. White bathroom is good because it really look clean but I think that it will be more enjoyable to take a bath when you are seeing other colors. =)

My bathroom is blue. Once I've lived in a rented apartment and the bathroom was white. It was very annoying that it looked dirty even when I've just cleaned it. Just with the time the white between the tiles had became yellow and also every little hair that falls down was so visible. I like more coloured bathrooms instead of white also because it's batter in my eyes. For bathroom I prefer cold colours like green or blue and I've chosen blue because I make association with water. I wouldn't chose black or very dark colour, because the water in my area has much limestone in it and they will stay white dots on the tile and I don't want to clean the bathroom several times per day
