Milk causes prostate cancer?

Milk - Delicious milk in all its glory or not?

There is an uproar here about a researcher who concluded after testing some patients, that if you drink more than 2 glasses of milk a day, you might be heading for prostate cancer.......for men of course!! We have this huge promotion here now from the Milk Producers saying that one glass of milk is good but TWO is much better!! Could it be that milk is dangerous for men? If you think of how much dairy products we eat in a day and how much they've said its good for us.......are we killing our men by giving them dairy products now? What do you think?

I don't know, it seems like lately they say anything you eat can kill you some way or another. When my daughter was little her doctor told me not to give her more than one glass of milk a day. He said that the cows eat grass that's had chemicals put on it, and that it comes out in trace amounts in their milk. He said it wasn't good for children to drink alot of milk because of the chemicals. I don't know if I ever really believed him, but he was a great doctor in every other way, so I took his advice. I guess if you really believe something could cause cancer, you could avoid it. I don't think a grown man would be hurt any by limiting his intake of dairy products, and if it helps his peace of mind, then it could be a good thing. Personally, I figure there are other things that we can't control (like genetics) that might cause cancer, so why worry.

I would say it's largely false, however, if it does contribute to cancer, it may be due to chemicals/hormones that are inserted into the cows then passed on to the milk. Now as far as milk producers recommending 2 glasses of milk, just so you'd know that Canada's Food Guide recommends 2 servings of MILK/DAIRY PRODUCTS each day, and 3-4 servings for children/adolescents. To be honest, I wouldn't worry too much about it as long as you generally eat healthy and keep in pretty good shape. I hope that helps! :-)

Hello Micheleg, You're right. Lately it seems that something that was deemed good for us is now bad for us. But as far as milk is concerned, I never thought that someone would actually come out publicly to tell us to NOT have that product and that it might cause cancer. It scares me. Im thinking if your doctor actually told you to not give your daughter milk.......he should know and Im tempted to think he might know something we dont. True, they do use chemicals and pesticides and sometimes they also use hormones. Thanks for your reply Micheleg!!

i just couldn't understand, why there are some people trying to put negative points in one product or a thing, that we have been using and trusted to be safe for years? and if all things and products we had been using aren't safe for us, then time will come, we have left with nothing safe to eat, drink, use, and live under.

I know what you mean Neildc. But I guess the problem is that what we "used" to eat or drink is not the same today. They use so many new pesticides and chemicals that I too feel that someday soon, we wont be able to drink or eat anything anymore. That will be a very sad day.....right? Thank you for sharing your view!!

In my opinion milk is not healthy at all. Do you really trust milk producers? Maybe 2 tablespoons are OK, but even one glass is way too much. Not mentioned that milk doesn't have any benefits is drinking milk from non-organic farm. Adults should not drink milk at all.

It is my understanding that hormones are often given to cows so that they will give more milk. When we drink the milk from these cows we would naturally be drinking in some of the hormones that were given to them. An imbalance of male and female hormones can lead to prostate cancer is my understanding. (If you look for milk without these hormones please be careful what milk you buy, since not all "natural" milk is really natural as I understand it). I like to take several vitamin d pills myself everyday to help prevent cancer. I have had prostate cancer in the past and it is a bad experience.

Oh Albert, Im so sorry you had to go through this. Im sure it was a very bad experience to go through. Yes Ive heard that vitamin D can help you as they say that the calcium in the milk is sort of destroying the vitamin D in the body. As for "natural" or "organic" milk. Im not too found of that. How am I to know whats in it. I think I'll give my husband some vitamin D instead to protect him and I'll "forget" to buy dairy products hehe Thanks for sharing with me.

Bah. I doubt the milk itself causes cancer. You MIGHT want to look up the various chemicals and hormones added though, and all that varies on the brand and company. One handy thing to know is, the more closeby your milk comes from...the odds of its safety go up. Our local brand here only adds hormones, but mostly the kind that's been in milk for years and no harm's come of it so far (I'd still rather 'em not be in there, but I love milk...so what can I do?). Besides, hormones rarely cause cancer, regardless of what they are. CHEMICLES, on the other hand, cause cancer all the time. Just know your brands, your companies, and know what you're eating and you should be fine.

Hello XParanoiax. Yes I know they add stuff to the milk and its not the milk per say thats bad. As for knowing what companies our milk comes from...Im afraid its not possible here. The big companies get their milk from milk producers from all over the province. All we know is the name of the company selling the milk. It cant be easy for you if you enjoy drinking milk. Thanks !!

Most of our dairy cows are given hormones to increase their milk production so this report is no surprise to me. Hubby and I have not used cow's milk for several years now.

Hello Hatley. Its not something I found on the net or received in an email, its actually something I saw on tv on the news. I saw it on different tv channels, in the newspapers also. Id gladly post a link here so you could verify it for yourself but its in a link from french tv. Im not sure if you're bilingual as I am. So its not a urban legend Im afraid. The study was done by a researcher here in a very well known hospital in Montreal, Canada. Thanks for your reply, have a nice day :)

From what I have read it all has to do with the lower levels of vitamin D. Throughout history milk has been a staple in most people's diets. I'm sure the fact that most men work inside instead of farming or working in the sun contributes to the lower levels of vitamin D so maybe milk is getting a bad rap on this one.
