okay so I have spent the last few day just covering my face with lotions. Why, you may ask well because the skin on my face is just so dry I can't even wear my makeup. In a failed attempt to get rid of the dry skin I have used I know at least 5 different lotions! Does anyone have any Ideals that wont cost an arm and a leg that might work?

Honestly, plain o'l vaseline or petrolium jelly is great. For really harsh days, rubbing a little in the palm of your hands and smoothing it out on your face helps. You can dab off the oily part with a little tissue so it doesn't clog too much of your pores. As the jelly is persistent in humidity, it will adapt well. And the makeup comes on really smooth. If you're using powder makeup, make sure the oils are nicely dabbed so you won't break out. Hope this helps!

well you might be having more trouble by using to many products. During the winter you should use a lighter moisturizer. I really like nutragina. Or Oil of Olay makes a good one also.

What are you using to wash your face? If your skin is already irritated you need to use a very gentle soap like Dove. I would look for theraputic lotions that are non-allergenic. Aloe vera is good so you could also look for something that contains that. And this wasn't a stupid question.

I suggest you drink a lot of water, have enough sleep, eat green leafy vegetables and be happy. Everything that we eat and feel reflects in our face. It is always good to be back on the basics. I bet you will not have anymore problems having a dry skin.

Hi sxrxnrr, There is no such thing as a stupid question! You're A-OK. When it's cold, my skin tends to get dry. 1) I use coconut oil or coconut milk after I wash my face, when I don't plan to go out. 2) On days when I have to leave home, I use creamy baby oil under my make up. 3) Before going to bed, I wash my face with plain water and apply A & D ointment which you can find at Rite Aid, CVS or Walmart. I rinse it off in the morning. This really works. Some of my friends have asked me what I use on my face. When I said, "A & D ointment," they all laugh at me, "when are you ever going to be serious?" They find it funny because A & D is used in nursing homes to prevent bedsores and to neutralize the acid on the skin of incontinent patients. What works on some may not work on others. But it's worth a try. Good luck to you!

A & D ointment here I come! Makes a lot of sense to me. Just like when I have bags under my eyes I have used Preperation H yeah thats right! It's made to shrink the skin so....and it works very well. I know my B/F teases me all the time and calls me a butt face but I dont care! I was watching a show on TV one time and a super model said thats what she used on her face and I tried it and it works.

Are you sure that it's just dry, or do you have overly sensitive skin? If your skin is very sensitive, lotions may even make it worse. Use olive oil or coconut oil to cleanse your skin and pat off the extra with a dry cloth. Don't rub your skin at all and avoid water and heat. Keep putting oil on your face several times a day. Try that for a few days and see if it works for you.

From what I have read, glycerin is an ingredient you should look for as well as a petrolium based ingredient. Believe it or not, at night time vasoline is very good. It soaks in and softens skin.

If you have dry flaky skin and lotion isn't relieving it, you could be experiencing a couple of problems. One possibility is that you have a condition like eczema or psoriasis that causes your skin to dry out and flake. Lotions won't typically help this kind of problem. Another possibility is that the lotions aren't helping because they contain chemicals that are actually irritating your skin instead of soothing it. Many people experience skin irritations from chemicals like artificial fragrances and preservatives found in most lotions and skin care products. Most lotions also contain mineral oil, which can clog your pores and make your skin even worse. I would recommend trying coconut oil for a while. It's not any more expensive than facial moisturizers, and it's much better for your skin. It doesn't clog your pores, is non-irritating, and it has nutrients in it that help to nourish and protect your skin. I never use anything else on my face for moisture.

i think i may due to over makeup as all of the makeup products are produced by chemicals that may or may not affect the skin to kill the cells or make them dry so first of all find natural products for makeup this is my humble suggestion and frequently wash your face with fresh water it may boost up your facial cells and get shined.
