As I have said many times before, when it comes to computers I am not the smartest tool in the shed. People will text me and while Im still anwering the first one, they are sending me another. I cant type pretty fast on a key board not on a cell phone. I am amazed at how good some people are. Then its AIMing and abbreviations. I dont know what they are saying half the time. Can you teach me some of these abbreviations so I can better communicate with others? And at a faster pace too. Please teach me some new ones? I know OMG means Oh my god or goodness. LOL mean laugh out loud. Tell me more.... please? thanks guys you're all a bunch of cherry lifesavers. dl

Hi I understand how you feel cause I go through the same thing too sometimes I don't understand a lot of text messages. Its really crazy the way people form these slangs. I guess I am like this cause I am not really into texting as such but I am trying to catch up .I think we should have a texting dictionary or maybe there is one online already.

I can totally see why people abbreviate or use different little tricks to speed up the messaging process. I just wish it was the same for everyone. I never been so confused... I just finally found out what BTW means. By the way. I am really thinking about writing a book with all the translations. Im a sure there are others who dont have a clue that would love a book to help them understand their messages. dl

I truely understand where you are coming from. I have the same problems. Texting is not my thing. I get frustrated with myself trying to text. Like you by the time I do get one done they have sent me two or three. I have told them not to text me just punch in my number and call me. If you do learn this texting please teach it to me because I need help too.

I tend to make it up as I go along I hadn't had a mobile for very long when I sent a text to my son telling him his dad had gone to a "Folk in the Park" event. My text went "Yr dad gon Fk in the Pk"... it proved to be a source of great amusement for both him and all his mates who were in the pub with him when he received it. He explained that 'text-speak' wasn't just a case of missing out all the vowels

There is nothing dumb about not understanding the abbreviations that people will use with instant messengers or with SMS texting. I see that you've got the two most commonly used ones down, but there are several more that I encounter on a regular basis: LMAO (laughing my a** off) ROFL (rolling on floor laughing) HAGN/HAGD (have a good night and have a good day) SYS (see you soon)

Being a frequent user of the internet, and having my fair share of MSN conversations over the time, I have become fluent with this new-fangled dialect favoured amongst today's youth (that made me sound so old) The only thing I cannot stand is when people start using these abbreviations in real-life discussions. It really grinds my gears, and I think "you're just making yourself sound like a complete idiot"

Hey, I need some education on those abbreviation or shorthanded writing too. Please help me to decrypt some of them. People are no longer writing in full sentence or in grammar. So, we have to fit in, and learn the new language.

hey, I felt the same here. I just need to learn some of those short-handed typing and decrypt their meaning. I just confused sometimes what they were saying. Good luck!

Well I guess some abbreviations used mostly in text are msg-message, wud?-what you doing?,wun?-where you now?, gtg(both in chat and text messaging)-got to go, brb-(be right back),afk(for computers)-away from keyboard, wtf-What the f**k(just fill in the stars. ^^...I used to joke about this abbrev.saying it actually means Wednesday, Thursday, Friday), well that's all I could remember for now but I probably missed some more common abbreviations. I hope this helped. GTG.:D
