Hello mylotters! I couldn't remember the time when I read in yahoo news that a couple were arrested because they didn't tip the waiter... The couple said that why are they going to tip the waiter besides its already included the service charge in their bill. Since i responded also in a topic about a girl arrested for vandalizing. Do you think it is appropriate? Calling the authorities first instead of having a talk of both parties involved?

Wow that is insanity. I would imagine that anyone who heard about someone being arrested for not tipping would never go to that restaurant and the place would loose so much business it would wind up going out of business. I assume the reason if this is a true story and not just a rumor would be that the gratuity charge was already added to their bill so if they dont pay then they are basically not paying for the food that they ate since the tip is mandatory. I think it is ridiculous that tips can be mandatory anyway. I remember going to the Paul revere buffet places in Ocean city maryland and it says right on the sign that there is a mandatory gratuity charge. I wasent happy about it. I think what you leave as a tip should be your business but whatever what could I do.

What country was that? How could you get arrested for not tipping? I would never go to that place again, and tell everyone not to eat there. What if the service sucked?

From what I can remember, its in your country united states. I couldn't remember the exact city... Oh, yeah! I forgot to mention the waiters were too busy to even catch their attention when the couples need them. The couple were with a group whey they dine in that restaurant...

A waitress or waiter does not necessary have to be tipped. Especially if their is already a service charge in the bill. I would have to say that the waiter must not have been deserving of any extra tip and to me the fact that the authorities were called in the first place makes me think that the waiter or waitress was not deserving of a tip. Not everyone tips, some forget to tip, but you should never ask or call the authorities because of it.

Wow, this is quite frankly absurd. Tipping should be something that is done as a bonus. You know a bit extra that is done if the person enjoyed the service. People should have a choice whether to leave a tip or not. If they do, that's fine, but if not, really, should they be losing any sleep over it? And arresting someone just because they did not leave a tip goes so far into absurd that it's not even funny. Many restaurants charge outrageous amounts to eat there to begin with. There are just some people who feel it might be a bit much and thus do not lead a tip. So there is really no call for the waiter to get upset. Tips are something extra, but do not expect them and do not get angry if they never come. I swear, some people just get really greedy these days.

This is the first time I heard that someone got arrested for not tipping the WAITER...I think that is very weird. I don't think it's mandatory that you need to give money to the waiter. You already paid for there service.

Wait what? Why would they tip the waiter? He is ALREADY WORKING on a salary to do his job, besides that waiters don't even do their job correctly if you don't Tip them... that is just utter madness, i think the owner of the Restaurant should go in jail for not having a proper lawtable for his services.

Tipping is not suppose to be a mandatory thing in the US. Most do tip though but only if service warrant one, if not, then a tip shouldn't be given. That is why I don't go to places where the tip is on the bill automatically. Then the waitress can be as bad as she wants to be because she still knows no matter what she is getting paid.
