I wish I had my camera ready

It seems like I never have my camera ready when this happens, but today Willy went up to Abby (the pit/lab mix) and proceeded to give her several big licks on her nose. This might not seem like anything special to my fellow MyLotters, but Abby was trained by her owner's husband to chase and attack cats. Abby came to my house hating cats and would snap at them. When I left the house for any period of time I would have to lock Abby in the family room so she was separate from the cats. It took a couple of months where I got her to tolerate the cats, and after a few months more she grew to love the furry fiends that share their home with her. I have caught them sleeping together, and Abby will come along and wash the cats while they are either on my lap or sleeping on my bed. The cats can now even snatch bits of dog food from between Abby's front legs while she is eating her breakfast or dinner. They even now play together! That's a big change of heart for a big dog!!! Have you had to work with your dog to keep them from attacking cats?

no, my dogs either like cats or at least know they are "boss" and only protest when the cat/s get too aggressive or familiar. Booboo likes dogs, but Zoe tries to mount him... he is always trying to sleep with Cujo who isn't impressed and doesn't want to share his blanket with the cat (especially one that's over half his size! (Cujo weights 25 lbs and Boo between 16 & 18 lbs)

When I grew up we had both dogs and cats. Only twice in my life could I remember a dog not liking the cats, or anyone for that matter. We eventually had to get rid of the dog. She couldn't get along and food time was a nightmare. But, not long (probably) after I moved out for good, my family got another dog. She hated cats so much that she actually would kill them. Apparently she killed the remaining cats that were at the house. Needless to say my old house no longer has cats. I'm just thankful that I got Precious out of there before this dog came into my family's lives. I could not bare the thought of this animal taking him too. And, well they are no longer considered my family so... good ridence.... to think they would keep that visious animal after it killed the cats. My family (with the exclusion of myself and my decesed mother) hated cats anyway.

HI Loverbear: Cute story; My pets have ALWAYS had to get along, that's the rule! My one older male dog used to look at my Cat Screamer from outside the door like she was a nice rabbit or something waiting to be fed to him; NOOOoooo!! but I worked with him and made him understand that my cats, are my babies too and they are not food, and not to be eaten... My old Momma Cat Minx who is no longer with me she used to protect or think she needed to protect my dogs from strange dogs...( the neighbor dog) that would wander down to visit, if she was outside she'd attack that dog and chase it off it was funny. I hope they all continue to get along well its very important right? {{hugs }}
