So I'm sitting here computerating, and I have my little TV on.....basically so I feel like someone is talking to me...
Anyways, I have it on a channel that has true crime stories and a commercial comes on for a new show called "Prison Wives"
For the most part, these aren't woman who are married before their husbands go to prison....these are women who seek out and have a relationship with men already incarcerated in prison....many of them serving life sentences for heinous crimes.
I've known a couple of girls in real life that were also into "relationships" with men in jail or prison.
So what I'm wondering is.....WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY THINKING?!?!? WHAT IS THE ATTRACTION to someone serving a life sentence or condemned to death for homicide or some other brutal crime.
These couples will NEVER stroll hand in hand on a beach during sunset, they'll NEVER be able to drive up to Lover's Lane to make out, and if they do manage to have children, how do they handle "Bring Your Daddy To Class For Career Day"?
The one lady on the commercial, talking about her prison husband, says "His eyes always light up when he sees me".......and I'm thinking.....HE'S SERVING A LIFE SENTENCE IN PRISON!!! IF YOU BROUGHT HIM A SHAVED MONKEY WITH LIPSTICK ON HIS EYES WOULD LIGHT UP!!!
So does anybody know the thought process behind these "relationships"
By the way, if you're married to or in a loving relationship with a quadruple axe murderer, I don't mean to offend.....I'm just wondering WHY???

am single so=)ahem just to clarify=0 ....i think the best explanation for that in my very own opinion is LOVE.. i mean love has never been rational, its one of the abstract things in life that no matter how hard you try to explain it, you just keep drowning and confused. on the other hand. there maybe strong history behind the relationship or just pure psychological or behavioral explanation to mask a personal problem..

Perhaps it excites them to know that these men are really 'bad' guys, literally speaking. Perhaps to them it's cool to have someone who's behind bars. Or perhaps they like the thought that these men could never hurt them or cheat on them because they're going nowhere.
The discussion made me recall back them when penpals were still a hit. My old maid aunt confessed that she has a penpal who was in prison for rape. I mean, I was shocked. But the relationship never continued when he started asking her to send him her unwashed panties. GROSS!
I mean, there must be something twisted here or there in this situation. Perhaps these girls are just desperate or something. Or perhaps they're not really into these guys, they're just into them right now when they haven't found someone else.
But still, it's only them who can answer that question.

Sconi-
Are you kidding me? Are you tellin me that you disappove of me finding my soul mate in John Wayne Gacy and marrying him?
You mean all the sweet words he writes to me are fake and phony??
Maybe I am a little starstruck! But wouldn't you be?!?!..lol
Hahahaha...there is some crazy people in the world.
I think the answer lies in low self esteem and very little confidence in oneself. I mean these murders are sitting in jail with nothing but time on their hands to create the perfect wording to suck these woman in.
As far as these woman thinking they may be able to change the ways of these horrible men, that be in some cases...but I think in most it really is that they feel they themselves (women) deserve no better than this man/type of man. It really is sad.

sconibear I have often wondred that myself. I think a lot of them
are women with little attention to themselves in real life so
seek to get some spotlight time by announcing that they are married
to which every multiple murderer whose name is in the current headlines.
they think that this will bring them some happiness even if they can
never have the things most of us want from marriage. Some will get
pregnant and even boast that the father is so and so, a really
reprehensible mass murderer. But I am left wondering just what they are
going to tell that baby when he or she gets older and wants to know where
daddy is? Like " oh he was on America's most wanted Criminal list darling, he killed thirteen women by strangling them" could this really
happen? This makes me feel really queasy just thinking about it. How can a woman do this to herself?

Simple. They have such low self esteem, they choose someone who is really unattainable, but will not reject them. The inmate would be glad for ANYONE to pay some attention to him in any way whatsoever, so they get a boost when the person is happy to hear from them or see them and lavish all sorts of compliments on them to keep them coming back to see them or write to them.
They don't have to worry about being dumped by the inmate, because anyone is better than nobody. And they can go around saying they have a boyfriend, when in real life, they probably can't get one. So, go to prison and look one up. Any one of them will be happy to call you his girlfriend, but there is no fear of being injured because you can't actually touch them, unless you are married.
The ones that are dumb enough to go that far, and actually marry an inmate that has done a haenous vicious crime. They, in my opnion, are just truly DAFT!

It's all about a mix of being the one to change him with a hint of celebrity groupy. Some of them can appear quite attractive when not appearing murderous and the women fixate like a teenager would with a pop star. Quite often they are a bit batty in the religious department too which speaks volumes. Of course they are quite happy to pay the way of Mr Right, so maybe they think they'll get a book out of it.

Now that makes the most sense so far.
Of course nobody's been able to change me so far but then again I'm not a captive audience.

Well..they are 95% less likely to be cheated on for sure in a relationship with someone in prison. Maybe they want to claim them on their taxes..lol I don't know what the draw is to date someone in prison although sometimes some are in there on mistake or something that happened that they didn't mean and it went to far. I would guess not all prisoners are bad. I don't know what the draw is though as I stated before especially with the ones that are there as repeaters for murder, child molesting, rape and other heinous crimes.Nope they won't be doing none of those things as you suggested unless he is released or break out of prison. Some men change after going to prison..they become better men and change their ways, maybe those are the ones they are attracted to..shaved monkey.0.o
It would be hard on the children for sure and I feel that it wouldn't be wise to bring children into that sort of relationship.
Maybe some woman are so desperate for love that they search for it in all the wrong places..or maybe that is where their soul mate is..love can be blind and all...

The reality TV is not about reality, but about to search for sensation. I don't know what they are thinking, but this is my conclusion. They desperately need love, imaginary or not. They need to be told that they are loved by someone.
The are other ways to feel love and be loved, but maybe they just need to be loved, but have no man to move in?
I feel so sorry for those who are seeking love with prisoners.
Nothing will shock me anymore. TV is doing brain damaged for woman who is watching, because few more will find that idea as their own and follow...(hope not)

I think you may be on the right track pola.
I think there's someone out there for everyone......you just have to look in the right place.
I'm thinking prison IS NOT the right place.

Prison is not the right place, but we live in very confused society, where tolerance is confused with logic.

I beieve you have the right answer here that they want to be married and this may be the only way they feel wanted, because its true the guy in prison needs someone and many of them have totally been left alone, and they would probably welcome anyone, and also that would give them a little income for a candy bar, coke, cigaettes and stuff. My nephew was locked up for a couple years. I went to see him every two weeks and it was a 300 mile trip each way. They need someone so I guess they'll say what it takes to get someone to care.

Oh my gosh! I know the program and I'm sooooo with you!! What the hell are they thinking is so correct!! What's the attraction??!! The only thing I can come up with is that these women have to have low self esteems or they wouldn't be with these men. What they DON'T know is, most if not all have lots and lots of women writing them AND sending them money. They think they're the only ones in these mens lives when they're not. Denial is another thing too. I say, what ever flops their mops and floats their boat as long as the dirt bag doesn't get paroled!

That shaved monkey line had me laugh so hard, i almost fell out of my chair. I don't like trying to figure out other peoples thought process. Nothing good ever really comes from that, in my opinion.
I would say they should seek mental help, and meet with something who would be able to analyze that area within their craniums(The thinking brain, as I like to call it). Maybe it's the wounded animal syndrome? Instead of this being some unlucky squirrel on the side of the road, twitching and stuff, it's a dude who won't experience the twitching moment until much, much later.
I wonder if they twitch during lethal injection. That reference probably doesn't make sense any more if not. Twitching is more of an electricity related thing in this case.

...Hi sconibear, I think that the reason is, and I am very serious about this, they know where the man is, and that he will be right there whenever they get there. He won't be dating anyone else or cheating on them with any other woman. Woman, being the operative word. I think the idea that they are confined, gives these women a sense of security with the crazy relationship. He won't hurt or kill her, he is locked up, so she has property in effect. That's my theory. I do think the women have very low self-esteem. How could anyone want to marry the Menendez brothers or Scott Peterson, who reportedly gets proposals all the time. So that might just be the answer, also that the men will be so grateful to them for acceptance, the women's egos are stroked. Whatever floats your boat, strange world. Take it easy.

I saw the same add and what I took from it was those people were already in a relationship before their second half ended up behind bars. Regardless of this fact, its human nature to want to be in a relationship with someone. And, the desire and need to be with another human being out weighs all logical thought processes. Quite often the animal known as human isn't ment to be completely understood.

I could comprehend the women who are willing to marry the prison guy, but it won't happen to me. Maybe we can never understand the thing the enlighten them, that is why we are confusing on their option.
I see a real story that a young beautiful girl married to a man, who is 20 years older than her and the most unacceptable thing by people is that he was in jail before. Her family and relative all opposed of their relationship. But after one year they are getting married, the girl suffered the leukemia unluckily, but the man is still there caring for her daily and night. Finally her family agreed this man.
I just think that everybody will have a weakness and love will come if somebody can hit it and recover. The real love can breath through the age, religion and area difference, regardingless of the attitude towards him.

oo-oo-oo , I KNOW-I KNOW !!!! Perhaps these prison wives are lonely, unattractive women and find it easier to date these prison peeps because normal people don't date convicts and so these prison peeps don't have much choice. IT's either: get some or stay in cell. I'd choose GET some too , if I were a convict. Gigidy gigdy goo :)
Or maybe , the danger that convicts pose are attractive to these women. I think females like bad boys ? ;0
