Do you take the time to shred or tear up your personal information, before you toss it out, to possibly prevent thieves from stealing your identity? Do you think that it would be a good safety measure to do so? Let us know your thoughts on the subject.

I used to shred all of my paper work that got bank details aswell as anything with our name and address on,but i found what with all the paper work that came here that was junk mail i also found it harder to keep up.My paper shredder broke so now i rip up the addresses as well as burn the papers as well as i find that way it saves room in my bins aswell as they are burn to ashes, alot safer.

...Hi there jugsjugs, Burning is probably the best thing you can do with records that you don't want anyone to get their hands on. That is the end of the matter, because you only have ashes at that point. Unless the thief once worked for the FBI or has access to chemicals to pull up the numbers off of a burned piece of paper, your information should be safe. Thanks very much for stopping by, take good care.

Well, since I somehow got hold of an old electric shredder some years ago, I use that to properly destroy any personal documents or files before disposing of them I put the shredded pieces of paper in a big bag and add maybe a few handfuls at a time to my normal garbage to prevent anybody from gathering up the paper pieces. Paranoid? Maybe slightly, but at least I will never have to worry about my personal info falling into the wrong hands

...Hi there MrKennedy, In today's world, paranoid may be a very good thing. I bought an electric paper shredder, and I know where it was supposed to be, but it's not there now. There were some people here working on the place. It's a privately owned property, and I have a feeling that one of them walked off with my paper shredder. Cannot accuse, because I cannot prove such a thing. But the box it came in is still here, but no shredder. So I am a victim of someone wanting to stop me from, preventing identity theft. How ironic is that? "o) Take care, and thanks.
