With summer comes a shortage in water in some areas of the country. To save this valuable resource, limit your shower to under 5minutes. Or use a pailand "tabo" instead. Also, do not throw away dirty aquarium water. Use it to water your plants. Any additional tips anyone??

I have no idea what a 'pailand "tabo"' is but, in today's world, we increasingly use water unwisely simply because it's available at the turn of a tap. In places where every drop of water must be carried by hand from the well or pump to where it is needed (sometimes for several miles), the value and scarcity of water is appreciated more. It is quite possible to wash the body adequately in about two litres of water (or even less) provided that one uses half of it for soaping and the other for rinsing. Even that water need not be poured down the drain if one has a garden. Ordinary soap has no bad effect on plants (indeed, soap is one of the best ways of killing the crawling kind of insect that can damage our crops). It is not wasteful to fill a tub with water to bathe if the water is then used to water the garden. It is actually less wasteful (but involves more work) than showering, where the water almost universally runs down the drain. Bath water, and water used for washing clothes and dishes can always be saved to water plants so long as old-fashioned soap is used and not modern detergents, which do not break down in the soil in the way that soap does. If you have a flush toilet, you can reduce the amount of water used for each flush by placing a brick or a plastic bottle filled with water in the tank. You will find that the flush is no less efficient. Many people find it unappealing but, in fact, there is no need to flush if the toilet only contains urine and many litres of water would be saved if that were realised and practised.

I agree with you, KHANRABIULLAH, that there are some who are still unconcerned about the waste of water. Here in England we have a fairly adequate rainfall (it is a 'green and pleasant land' on the whole!) but we still have water shortages in some summers. When I visited Los Angeles, I was appalled at the attitude to water there. LA is really a city in a desert climate though the hills around get rain and the rivers used to flow through the desert to the sea. These days, however, there is little or no water in the rivers: it is all piped to the city, often from hundreds of miles away, and every patch of grass and private garden is watered daily and nobody seems in the least concerned about saving water!

hello friend i had read your discussion, i want to say that there are many peoples who are doing hard work for saving water but you know onething only one player cannot win match because all have to do same. i want to say you that you know that there is a production of 10 lac cubic kilometer cube fresh water from rain and it is sufficient for human consumption but due to improper distribution of water we are facing such a problem. to be continue...

sorry my friend i have to go therefore our discussion is incomplete, so i want to say you that total annual rainfall water is 10 lac kilometer cube and this are sufficient for all of us to consume it for a year but due to improper distribution this leads to scarcity of water. this are following things which are responsible for scarcity of water. first is industries, there are many industries who are wasting a lot of water and not only this there are many indutries who are draining their effluents in direct flow of river which is impotant source of water. this effluents leads to water pollution in river and not only this many chemicals are there which is hazardous for aquatic lives and also this chemicals are also making water unfit to consume. i also want to tell that among with this there are some chemicals like cadmium and other carcinogenic metals which when enters into body cannot be get seperated. i can give you best example of this. ganga the purest river in india in now dirtiest river in india, because due to this water pollution due to indusrial effluents makes this river so much dirty that no one can consume it. you know what the carcinogenic metals which i have introduced above is also present in that water. please reply with your comment that how you feel about my comment, khan.
