Is Helium hard to start in?

I just joined Helium and was not surprised at the strict rating/qualification system put in place, after all, professional writers visit/use the site as well. I'm wondering about your experiences in "breaking in" - did you have a hard time achieving your first writing star? Or is it not as bad as I'm thinking?

I joined Helium in I think Aptil of last year. The first month I didn't do much. The second I tried to sort it out and got frustrated, but then a myLot friend explained everything to me and after 17 articles I had two writing stars. They fluctuated for a while until I understood how to maintain my writing score. By the third month I saw a penny added to my account and realized I had started to earn and then I got busy. The next month I reached payout and I have done so every month since. I ventured into the contests and regretted it because it brought my writing score down. I ventured into the marketplace and had two out of three articles purchased by an outside publisher. Recently I was recruited to be a channel steward. I have nothing but good things to say about Helium. If you are a good writer you can easily "break in" and begin to earn for your efforts. If you need help with helium please feel free to contact me. I am the Hobbies and Games Channel Steward and you can follow the link in my myLot profile or link from the channel directly on Helium. Good luck!

Awesome!!! I'm so happy for you how it worked out, and especially since you didn't give up, that in itself is an inspiration to me.

Thanks - I just did a little peeking around a few minutes ago in the Religion and Spirituality section and it didn't seem as daunting as I thought it would be. I also signed up with Associated Content as well, but I think those guys are a little tougher than Helium - maybe that's why they pay more. ^_^

Helium is a terrific place to hone your writing skills, and very encouraging when you see your articles ranking high within a particular theme. It trains you to tailor your skills I feel, and as you get better, you start to rank higher and higher. I'd recommend it to any budding writer.

I've joined Helium but didn't really write too often, I have about 31 article up there but my Writing Star just fell off because I tend to write for subjects that don't get a lot of other writers yet, but I just like getting extra money for writing. I'm sure I'll get my writing star back but I'm sure it's going to take a lot of time for me to get it.
