My girlfriend's first Black and White cookies

Black and White cookies - This was my girlfriend's first attempt in making this kind of cookies. They are pretty simple to make, but nevertheless this was a nice accomplishment for her.

Well my girlfriend got this huge book of recipes of about 1.000 pages consisting of only cookie recipes and she decided to try one just 2 days ago as she had some free time. I attached a photo of them and i must say they were pretty simple to make and quite tasty (after we let them cool off - the hot ones weren't so good :D). My question is if you are young and / or a beginner in baking cookies - how are you doing on trying to make cookies ? does everything goes as planed...? At least some of the time ? If you are not so young and / or are more qualified then the average newbie - do you remember your first tries on various cookies ? Did they work out fine ?

Hi elitess, Well done to your girlfriend for her first atempt at making cookies, they look very delicious, I have made cookies in the past but cannot be bothered now. I don't want to spoil my hubby as he will want me to make it all the time. Tamara

Hello Tammy :P Well you got it a bit wrong :D This was her first time at this type of cookies :D She made tiramisu a couple of times before. She also made brownies and home made chocolate (first one was only good at taste, the look was pretty lousy :D)

Hi Alice, no chance of him getting podgy as he is a cyclist in the club, he is very slim and he can eat whatever he wants and never put on a ounce, I just smell food and put on weight, it makes you sick, lol! hugs. Tamara

I don’t really bake much at all except during school holidays when my daughter and I have baking days. She received a cup cake maker for her eighth birthday so last holidays we tried it out and it was a little bit of a disaster I admit but we learnt where we went wrong so hopefully they may even be edible next time! Your girlfriend’s cookies look yummy; she must have done this before (LOL)! In the meantime my little girl and I will keep practicing; I’ll post a photo of our next success too. Well done to the cookie maker!

Those look delicious! I've been baking for as long as I can remember. My mother used to let us help sift flour, measure ingredients and stir the cookies and cake batter. It was fun an also taught us about fractions and counting. When I was very young, before kindergarten, she used to let me stir Jello--50 times around one direction and 50 times the other. I haven't had very many failures and have been doing it for so long that I can make cookies and cakes without a recipe because I'm familiar with the basic ingredients. I've had a few cakes that were lopsided and burned some cookies, though. Congratulations to your girlfriend, I hope she has a lot of fun with her new book!

Oh, the cookies I have messed up, and the cookies I have perfected. I would suggest "double panning" Makes the heat distribute better. Cuts back on burnt bottoms. But, then so does following the instructions to the letter, and knowing your ovens calibration. Many burnt cookies on my end, but that is how we learn is it not. Cheers, I appreciate you.

I have been baking cookies for ages now. My first trail was a disaster. The cookies were flat but the taste was there. I have to make several trail and errors before I can perfect them. Now I can say I am a cookie monster! When there is festival like christmas I get tons of orders. You should be glad that your girlfriend likes baking. Probably you can check out my blog in my profile page as I have put all my favorite recipes there.

Oh that's nice.^_^ I havent actually tried baking cookies before. But I am fond of making those no cook no bake desserts. Those are fun and quite easy to do. The first attempt that I had in cooking cookies, well it was slightly burnt but was very hard that it cannot be eaten. The next few batches of those were a little better but they were still almost uneatable. It doesnt really go as planned when Im following recipe instructions to a tee. But when I add something of my own, by that I mean add a little ingredient or maybe dont follow one step, then it will turn out not as bad as I thought it was. So sometimes I only look at recipes for reference. I experiment on my own.

I love homemade cookies. i MADE PEAANUT BUTTER COOKIES FOR MY DAD WHEN I STILL LIVED AT HOME a 100 years ago. I don't make cookies much anymore, i don't need them & noone else here to eat them. I did make some after halloween & used up what candy i had left over. I shared those w/my neighbors.Notning ever goes as planned when i make cookies, i tend to over cook at least one batch of them always.

A long time ago, I tried making chocolate crinkles. It was good! But I always remember how troublesome it was to make, and all the mess I made baking them. So, I have since refrained from making cookies for the kids. Now, I just buy the Pillsbury ready-to-bake sugar cookies. The ones that you just place in a try and stick in the oven.
