Natural disasters

I dont fully understand why everyone is up in arms because a country made of straw huts was hit with a natural disaster. Honestly all over the world earthquakes happen, and in countries where their government has instilled building codes they dont suffer as much damage as third world countries tend to due to lack of building codes. Also why do Americans find it necessary to send excessive amounts of money to outside countries when catastrophy is right around the corner? Another thing why is it that everyone is amazed when a natrual disaster happend? ITS NATURAL! There is no way to prevent it. You dont like your house burning down every year? MOVE! You dont want your house washed away by a flood? DONT BUILD YOUR HOUSE IN A FLOOD ZONE!

You ask a lot of questions, BluRu, so let me see if I can answer them point by point. You've overlooked something called compassion for those who are suffering in your first sentence. Haiti is a very poor country and, yes, they lack building codes because the corrupt so called government does not care about the citizens of their own country. This does not mean that the rest of the world shouldn't care or try to help. This earthquake was massive by anyone's standards and it caused a lot of people to be hurt, killed and displaced. The world could not simply turn a blind eye because these people are poor. They are not poor by choice, they have no way to improve their circumstances which is why so many risk their very lives coming to my state of Florida every year in rickety boats. I don't know what catastrophy you believe is right around the corner for the U.S. but, even though we're having a rough time of it right now, we can still find it in our hearts to donate a few bucks to help the people in Haiti and so can our government. Yes, natural disasters happen but they don't happen every day, which is why some folks are willing to take the risk of living in a risky area. I live in south Florida. I've experienced several hurricanes since I've been here which is why I have homeowners insurance to protect my properties and their contents. My husband and I moved here to be close to his family after he had triple bypass surgery and his younger brother was diagnosed with throat cancer. Life is short, there is only so much time that you can spend with the ones you love. In our case, that was the need...in other cases people live where they do for other reasons. I don't believe that no one should be willing to live in risky areas but I do believe that, if they choose to, they should have good insurance coverage.

Well, it's not really that simple, but what you say is kind of true. But, the thing is, it's just nice to help people when they're down. If more people around the world helped each other than the world would be a much better place. The thing is, the US will never need help from Haiti, but Haiti could use our help. It's good karma to help out people in need.

The people that are "up in arms" helping countries damaged by natural disasters are just kind and compassionate. They are doing it for love :)

A lot of people don't have a choice where they live and can't afford to move or upgrade their house to be able to withstand any disaster. No one wants to suffer, and most people don't like to see others suffering. Third world countries build what they can! They would upgrade if they could. In Haiti, with all the money people are sending over, they may be able to build better buildings. Also, the a huge purpose of a government is to help the people and to support them in times of need and protect them. They would not be doing their job to not spend money to help rebuild. Lots of countries that need tons of outside support have power governments that are not able to do this. This is why Americans send tons of money over. Also, many people just like to help.

I see your point there. People are complaining to natural causes, which does not make sense!
