I have heard the news that 52Billion Euros are spent in Europe in a year on tobacco. I think that this is obscene. When one considers the amount of people dying from lung cancers. How much money is spent on taxes to subsidise dying patients from causes by smoking. I think that tougher measures regarding smoking should be taken. I know that everybody has the right to be free and do as he pleases but should not smoking be banned for the benifit of all?

Well well, most ple will tend to blame smoking or smokers for causing lung cancer, but why?? Smokers are not the only ones polluting the air with harmful substances.. Even fumes from cars etc, does have the same effect!! It's not fair to blame everything on the smokers, just because they are the minority, and has got no contribution by lighting up?? haha =D And never worry about taxes, because government can always impose high taxes on tabacco, on pretext to curb smoking, but in reality, they are trying to earn eve more!! lol =D

Hi, ronaldinu! I used to smoke, and quitting was one of the most difficult things ever. After many years, I still want to smoke quite often, and resisting is still difficult. We need to find a really effective way to prevent people from starting smoking, and a really effective way to help those who have started to quit. If you hear of anything that can put a complete end to this horrible addiction, please be sure to let me know!

I started smoking when I was a teenage mostly out of peer pressure and boredom. I smoked for about fifteen years and quit when my son was born 9 yrs ago. Its a very addictive vice to break but everyone can do it if you have strong will

i think you should take care of your life and leave the smokers alone. I have smoked for over 40 years and my health is fine, same with my dad and they didn't hae filters on them then, and some rolled their own. Why don't we ban something that you do, maybe like eat every thing in sight. I hate people that got their noses stuck in everyone else's business. I bet there is somethings you do that others don't like, so we find out what most like and ban it. After 40 years it is almost hopeless to try, I even as for medicine to help me stop and insurance company said didn't see the need to pay for it, so apparently they was not concerned about having to pay for me when you say I will get lung cancer. Coal minors get lung cancer let's close all the mines and put them all out of work. My grandmother had cancer never smoked or drank in her life, so dont' come across with your cancer cra*p. Just another person who thinks they should have life just the way they like, get over your self it won't happen.

I have repeatedly tried to quit with no success but then a friend reminded me of a quote from the greatest philosopher that never lived yoda "do or do not there is no try" so I finished my final pack of ciggarettes today and I refuse to buy another or bum one off of anyone this time I am going to do.

Good luck. I'm told it helps to replace the addiction with something else, but it should be something healthy. Exercise works for some. A regular program.

Hi ronaldinu, Smokers has been bashed os many thimes by anti smoking fanatics too much as smokers are not allowed to smoke indoors in any public places, I thought it was a free world but where is the freedom? its not just the smkers that cause pollutions, its everything else, cars, planes and factories, so why not ban them too? also what about drinking, now there are more harm to that then smoking, as drinkers are always causing mayhem to themselves and to others, causing drunk driving killing innocent people, beating up thie spouse and many more, so why don't they ban that, I wish people will stop bashing smokers all the time, food is bad, lke junk food and causing obesities, that is costing the hostiptals a lot of money for people's greed, so please just don't stop at smokers, if you don't like the smoke, just stay away from smokers. I am not a smoker, and never. Smoking can cause your lungs perforated, burning money that adverse health. Government has taken action to ban people smoking in public places like stations, malls or bus stations. There are spaces provided for smoking, and it was used as it should be.

My husband has smoked most of his life, but I never started. As for smoking, I think instead of banning it, there should be smoking establishments, so that smokers will have a place to go, but non-smokers won't have to suffer through all the smoke in their lungs. This is a good compromise for all.

I am still smoking. I have quit so many time, I have quit quitting. It's one of the hardest things for me to give up because I love it and hate it both at the same time. I want to try to quit again soon. I just need to make a plan and stick to it and not get sucked back in to the temptation of it.

I smoked for 2 weeks when I was 18, quit and never looked back... I don't see the point of banning smoking though.

Unfortunately, to be honest, I smoke. I try to quit all the time, and hopefully one day I will be successful. I have hope and faith. It's just such a nerve calmer. I'd give anything if I hadn't started, and I was in my early 30's when I smoked my first. Isn't that awful!

I don't smoke anymore. I don't mind if it will be banned or not. I just think that the smoker should care people around. If you want to smoke then smoke in smoking area.

I recently quit once again my reasons had more to do with money than anything else I do not think we should ban it banning something never works it just leaves more room for people to be fined and such like that it would not eliminate it one bit. Smoking is an addiction and someone who has never smoked can not understand nor feel how it feels to have to quit much less quit. I have quit but there is not much time that my body still feels off balance like part of me is missing this is something I am not sure will ever change since I have smoked more than half my life more than 3/4 of my life it became my life

Yes you are correct, it should be banned. Here in India, smoking at public places are banned. That is really good initiative but unfortunately, till there are certain number of places where the banned is not being followed as per it's intense. So only banned is not enough, there must be some strict action plan to be impose to rule the ban..... Thanks for initiating such discussion.!.!.!
