I had it fixed so the power wouldn't sleep cause I am on here too much. But it started going to sleep on me no matter if I am away for a few minutes or longer. I went to control panel and set it up to where it is not supposed to go to sleep but it still keeps going into sleep mode.I went to the power option and set it to never go into this mode. Does anyone know what I did wrong?

From the responses, I see you are talking about the Vista OS. You say you 'had it fixed so the power wouldn't sleep', are you are talking about the same thing as going to Power Options or was something else done? Have you always had this problem with Vista? If not, have you tried restoring and resetting the default power plan? See: www.vistax64.com/tutorials/198047-power-plan-restore-default-settings.html You might also want to check the sleep state in your BIOS and check your Device Manager to see if any devices are automatically shutting down your computer. Hi LaDeBoheme. This started after I tried to reinstall vista. I got this computer given to me and it has or had a lot of junk on it. So I tried to reinstall vista and wipe out their stuff but haven't figured out a way to format it. Do you know how to format vista. I did go into cmd and ran as administrator. Typed in powercfg h off and it hasn't gone off since. Thanks for the link I am always looking for new sites to fix computers.

To tell you the truth, free_man, I am still an XPer myself, so I am not that familiar with Vista, but I did run across this link that may help. www.cyberwalker.com/article/725 Although if you say that your computer has not dozed off since you went to powercfg, you may have solved the problem. *knocking on wood*

Hi LaDeBoheme. Thought it fixed it but didn't. So I am back to square one but it is okay makes me learn this machine more. I will go to that site and see what it says. Thanks!

Are you sure it is sleeping or the monitor is turning off. Computers offer two options. One of them is to turn off the minotor after x amount of time, and another is to put the computer in a low-power state. or "sleep" mode. What you need to do is check to see if the power options have your minitor going off. If so set it to "never" also apply and save the changes and restart your system for good measure. Now if you have a laptop, you need to ensure that the power options for both the battery mode and the plugged in mode match. Each state has its own set of rules. Hope this helps some.

Hi Kaay. No it isn't shutting down the monitor it is just going into sleep mode. I have checked this out with a fine tooth comb. I had it working right yesterday but had to reinstall vista. (my own reasons) and it just won't stay awake for long if I am not doing anything. No it is a desktop model computer. Have done as you wrote and still no good. Thanks though.

Hi LaDeBoheme. No I couldn't figure out how to format the HD. When I tried to format the drive it wouldn't let me. But somehow it is working fine now. I couldn't find out how to format vista. Do you know how to format vista?

Which power option are you using? Mine is set on High Performance, because I am on it all the time. I also have the others set to never.

Hi Thoroughrob. I am using the High Performance like you and have every one of the settings to stay on. I am just off here long enough to get a cup of coffee and it shuts down. Driving me nuts.
