I was watching the Olympics today and they had a special on the 1980 Olympic team. Many of you are probably too young to remember that and I was just a little girl. So who all does remember that moment in sports and do you remember where you were.

I remember! I watched the 1980 Olympics and I saw the US hockey team win the gold LIVE! It was incredible! UNBELIEVABLE! The US team was not expected to be much of a threat, so when they reached the silver medal round against Russia, the whole country sat up and took notice. When they beat Russia who was expected to take the gold, it was unheard of that this upstart American team would beat the invincible Russians! Two days later, when they played Finland, I, like most Americans, was glued to the TV. I couldn't and I could not NOT watch the game. I cannot explain the anticipation, excitement, disappointment (when they were behind), I felt while watching. When they won, you would have thought I won the gold medal. I was whooping and hollering and crying!
I remember Jim Craig (the goalie) skating around the rink after the game with the American flag draped over his shoulder looking up in the stands for his father and he almost looked like he was in shock.
Of course, this was before the amateur/professional rules were changed, so the team was entirely made up of college players, since NHL players were not allowed to play in the Olympics at that time. No one had ever heard of these guys. They all knew them then.
I saw that special today. It brought back some old GREAT memories.
