How are your teeth?

I didn't get a cavity until I was 25 years old. And then I was told it was caused by a medication I was taking at the time. Whether that was true or not, the process of fixing that problem cost a lot of money. I don't have dental insurance, as I'm sure a lot of you don't either. I'm going to the dentist on Wednesday. So when did you get your last checkup? Do you only go if there is a problem, or do you go to take preventative measures? Bridges, crowns, whatcha got?

*smiles* Just been there, no plaque, no nothing actually, just something that could turn into a cavity but the last one I had that could become a cavity used 12 years before it had to be fixed, so I'm not worried. I don't have a dental insurance, I don't think that's normal here. The insurance would probably cost more than I use in dental care anyway, I've had one cavity the last 16 years. I had 1 while I was in school, and had to pull some teeth when I was in Kindergarten but that didn't cost anything as children under 18 have free dental care. And with 19 and 20 you pay 20 percent I think.

I think my teeth are okay. I haven't ever had any fixing procedures. I've also heard about some medications, that can cause cavity, it's pretty terrible. You kind of have to choose between two negative things. Just like you, I also don't have any dental insurance. That's why I actually went to the dentist some half of year ago. In our country dental medicine is free for people under 19, so I decided to check my teeth, so if there were any issues, I could have got them fixed for free. Usually I go to dentist once a year to get my teeth checked for problems. And I luckily don't have any. Hope your teeth are okay now, take care!;)

Oh I know! I brush my teeth three times a day. My mom made sure we did as kids, and it stuck with me as an adult. I also use mouthwash twice a day. The kind of mouthwash the helps prevent cavities and strengthens the enamel on our teeth.

Oh my teeth! I don't like my teeth because they are very weak. I get cavities often. In fact I am just using dentures in my 4 front teeth. I am always asking my mom why she haven't helped me caring for my teeth when I was young and she always answer that I used to eat candies and sweets before bedtime. That is why form now on, I will care for my son's teeth. I will do my best to give him a strong teeth. I have got my family a health insurance with free dental services.

My teeth are fine but it is not as strong as it used to be when I was younger. Cavities appear every now and then.

I had a few cavities when I was younger, but now I haven't had one in years. I think that nowadays, with fluoride in our toothpaste and visits to the dentist twice a year, it's easy to keep your teeth in good condition.

Hi AmbiePam. One good thing about growing up in wartime England and the severe rationing, was that we had no lollies (sweets, candies etc) no sugar, no puddings, no cordials or soft drinks or any of the rubbish that children today devour and suffer dental problems as a result. I never owned a toothbrush as a child and was never taught to clean my teeth. Of course, as I grew older and started working, hygiene became a new thing in my life. I never visited a dentist and I had no problems until after my first baby was born. Unborn babies are parasites and for each baby I lost a tooth following an abscess. My youngest child is now 34 years old and I haven't been to a dentist since soon after he was born, but I haven't had a toothache or anything either.

Hi Amber. I haven't been to the dentist in years. I'm pretty sure the last time I went was when I was about 17 years old, so it's been awhile. I actually had 4 small cavities back then, however, the dentist wasn't concerned about them so I didn't bother to have them taken care of. But now, well, at least one of the four is noticeable. I know that I'll eventually have to go in, I just don't want to because I don't have dental insurance or the money to pay for it. And when I do have the money I usually spend it on something else, like my husband's dental needs. LOL Happy mylotting!

I used to have good teeth. But then I used to go to the dentist a lot and took care of my teeth. Then about 13 years ago I made some bad choices in my life and couldn't afford to go to the dentist anymore. I didn't have any insurance so it would cost me a lot to go. Now I am suffering for it. I had, years ago, 5 teeth root caneled and never got them capped because, like I said, I couldn't afford to. Now those teeth that were root caneled have broken and I have problems with almost no teeth on the bottom, in the back. I need to get false teeth for the bottom but now I can't afford that, again, so I suffer instead. So all I can say is this, take good care of your teeth now because you'll be sorry later on if you don't.

I have a check-up booked for 4th March so the dentist may tell me otherwise but, I think they're not bad. I have one crown & a total of 4 that have been filled over the years - the first one being when I was about 31. The dentist asked me if I needed an anaesthetic. I said I didnt know because i'd never had a filling before. He said it was only small & I'd be fine without one.... My 2 sons (aged 18months & 5) and were in the surgery with me so there was NO WAY I could make any sort of fuss for fear of scaring them off dentists for life.

I was just talking to my friend about dentists today. She’s always had a phobia about going to the dentist so much so that she didn’t look after her teeth and eventually some fell out including one of the front ones! She is now going through the process of getting false teeth to replace the ones she lost. My husband, daughter and I go every six months because our insurance covers a clean and check twice a year for all of us so it’s a great incentive to go and keep our teeth as healthy as possible. I have a few fillings for cavities I had when I was younger but of late all has been okay and I take much better care of my teeth than I used to.

I used to have no problems when I was younger, but then when I was in college I didn't have any dental insurance. I guess those cleanings every six months were more important then I thought because when i went back I had like six cavities. Yikes! Now I really hate to go to the dentist, but you better bet I'm in that chair at least twice a year. I can't take another six cavities again. I've also switched to using an electronic toothbrush because the dentist said it works better... flossing I have to admit is more like an every other day sort of thing for me... but I'm trying to be better.

Hello ambiepam When i was younger i was very irresponsible with my teeth, and i had a lot of cavities when i was younger. Now im more responsable with my teeth and have brackets, my teeth are truly a mess, most bear with brackets until my teeth get aligned. They are not so bad actually, just the day after i visit the dentist they are a nuisance, other than that i can bear with the bracets. I think you are so lucky you never had cavities for so long, you must be really responsable with your dental health.

I hate dentists and am scared to go. I've been to too many bad ones in my life! I have a bridge but apart from that still have all of my teeth.lol. I am still having problems answering discussions but can read all of my friends' posts. Really driving me crazy. will try to answer two a day until I can afford to pay a technician to find out why I cannot post or answer on Mylot even though I can read the discussions. Also reported it to Mylot but nothing yet has happened. I do have a limited dental insurance - enough to get my teeth cleaned and will now make an appointment to do so. Take care dear friend and hope to be back on Mylot with all problems solved soon.Blessings

That great record for you as you maintain healthy teeth until 25 while I have tooth decay since the time i discover to eat sweet food. i only take good care of my teeth when i am in grades school especially when i experience having a toothache that i avoid consuming sugary sweet laden food. The only time i visit my dentist is last year when i had a tooth filling procedures, laser cleaning and just check up my teeth. So far it have no signs of continuing decay it ll stop now and the things i am doing now to keep my teeth healthy is to drink lot of fruits juices, massaging my gum, brushing everyday and avoiding eating food that are starchy and sugary.

Here's one for you! How do you know people from Mississippi invented the toothbrush? Because anybody else would've name it a TEETH-brush! Seriously though, I hate going to the dentist. Why does it have to hurt so much? Sometimes I wish there really was a tooth fairy - seems like a fairy would be much more pleasant to deal with than a drill-wielding dentist!

I got my last checkup done last month, had a cavity !!! I visit the dentist mostly when there are problems or i just feel that i should go for a regular checkup. Preventive measures have to be taken according to me as there is no way out of it. I haven`t got any bridges or crowns but have got 4 fillings right now :( I use a dentist certified brush too now which is quite efficient than ordinary brushes.
