CHOCOLATE! Have you ever treated yourself to something more than a Hershey's?

Dark and Milk Chocolate Raspberry Jellies - Photo taken from Boscov's website - this is one of many of the candy choices to be had.

I went to the mall the other day with my gentleman friend. We ended up in the gift and kitchen ware section of Boscov's (a privately owned department chain in the Philadelphia area) and there was, to my surprise, a candy department full of good quality chocolates. There were turtles, caramel cashews, chocolate covered jellies, truffles, Bridge mix, and English toffee. Well, I'm no chocoholic - that was my dad - he'd have chocolate ice cream with chocolate syrup and chocolate sprinkles while drinking a glass of chocolate milk. The man LOVED his chocolate. Especially butter creams. But, there are certains chocolates I remember from my childhood that you just don't see much of these days and I still love them! I decided to treat myself. I ended up with a pound of candy for $16 - just over FIVE times as much as the cost of two different scented wick defusers I found on sale! LOL I got four each of chocolate covered orange jellies, raspberry jellies, raspberry creams, caramel cashews and Espresso truffles. I also got four white chocolate vanilla caramels and a 1/4 lb. chunk of English toffee. Let me tell you - IT WAS HEAVENLY!!! I haven't eaten all of it - like I said, I'm no chocoholic. But, I have really enjoyed what I've had. I just love those milk chocolate covered jellies! The Espresso truffles are elegant and taste just like that shot of espresso at the bottom of a Starbuck's coffee. The English toffee is perfect (although I prefer it without the chopped nuts coating the chocolate). My least favorite candies are the white chocolate covered caramels - and they're very good, too. It's just that I've had better and creamier white chocolate. Anyway, I just had to share with you my personal indulgence. It's been a long time since I bought GOOD chocolate. I'm not supposed to have it since I'm diabetic, but I've limited myself to no more than three in a day in order to not do too much damage as I enjoy my little treats. So, have you ever decided to treat yourself to a little decadence even though it would normally be something you wouldn't do, whether because of cost or because of diet (or all of that)? What was it and was it as good as you were hoping when you got it? Also, what kind of chocolates do you like that aren't just candy bars?

Terry's Chocolate Orange Dark - WHACK and unwrap! They break apart into "orange" segments just like a real orange would....
Hey jerz...Boy do you go all out when you do indulge..lol I my tastes run more along the lines of this.... http://www.amazon.com/Terrys-Chocolate-Orange-6-17-Ounce-Boxes/dp/B001LN2QU2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=grocery&qid=1266930332&sr=8-1 Like you, jerz, I'm also diabetic so one of these will last me a week. I just let them melt in my mouth.

I love chocolate oranges. The idea makes my daughter gag! LOL But, I get to keep more of the candy because I like it fruity and she doesn't!! I know - I'm surprised people didn't JUMP on the chocolate bandwagon, myself! Thank you, KL, for keeping me from being an orphan! LOL

My daughter LOVES these as well so I really have to keep them well-hidden or she'll inhale them all. The local farm store had them on clearance after Christmas so I got 12 of these babies for $1.50 each. Your welcome..Lil' orphan WV...

It's funny - I avoid those for that very reason. They're so sweet!! LOL My daughter's boyfriend gave me chocolate covered cherries for Christmas. They were actually cherries (so many aren't), but sickening sweet. I felt bad, but didn't let him know I wasn't too thrilled with how much chocolate he gave me. I am just not that into chocolate. But, I love hard crunchy toffee bars, like Heath and Skor. That buttery richness with a touch of saltiness that comes through, but even then, I eat the chocolate first so I can just taste the toffee. Wish they'd make it without any chocolate on it at all!! LOL

Yes. I tend to, if I'm having a really bad day, go right to the Godiva section. Or, Dove but that's not as good as Godiva. There is a lady who makes homemade chocolate and sells it as Umass. If I have money and I'm there, I treat myself to her stuff which is way better than Hershey's.

I've bought the Russell Stover sugar free Mint Patties and they are very yummy. If I only have one or 2 a day I don't take the chance of ruining my diet and still get a chocolate "fix" and a mint fix (I come by my chocolate mint addiction honestly, my mom is one too!)

Hey jerz! I will first say good for you girlfriend for treating yourself! You definitely deserve it! I am a bit concerned, only because of your being diabetic, but you obviously know what your doing! I am a chocoholic! I loves my chocolate! I happen to have a thing for Godiva and Perugina chocolates which are also only found in the malls in the higher quality stores, which I very rarely go near! So, haven't had any for many years!lol But, for Valentines Day I bought myself a box of $3.99 chocolate candy, finished it and went back the day after Valentines Day and bought another one at 1/2 price and I was in heaven! Those candies tasted incredible! The were a brand named Elemers and they were better than Rusell Stovers and any of the other ones that they had! My boyfriend bought me a big Hershey Kiss and an M & M dispenser thingy and a tiny box of chocolates! But, when he buys me candy he expects me to just save it and look at it! He bought me a chocolate Easter bunny last year and I still have it! I was only supposed to "look" at it! So, I am still "looking" at the Kiss, the M & M thing and I ate the little tiny box of chocolates that had only 3 pieces in them! Glad you're enjoying yourself!

Thanks, Opal. They also had Godiva chocolates in boxes around the candy counter, but I liked being able to pick my own favorites out. Ya never know what you're gonna get in those boxes! LOL And, thanks for reminding me - I need to go get the bag in Deb's room and have a couple. Didn't have any yesterday. Belly growl!!
